Cell Phone Recycled To Better Things

Before you discard your old cell phone, think of the possibility of it lighting up a child’s life. Allow me to explain, data suggests that millions of phones are discard globally but very few make it to the recycle bin. If we take a fraction of these discarded phones and convert them into a low-cost camera for the under-privileged, then we can encourage a new breed of trigger-happy kids.

  • Pacam is a small, low-cost children’s camera made with the parts of old cell phones.
  • It uses the camera components and the LCD screen.
  • These parts are combined with economical cardboard and rechargeable AAA batteries.
  • The project aims to encourage children to forge their own dreams.

Pacam is a 2013 red dot award: design concept winning project.

The Air Walk

Air Rope is an inflatable rescue tunnel that can be deployed during flood situations. It is a safer option to the rope pulley system and is easier to use. Instead of braving the torrent and crossing the river to secure a pulley system, the inflatable air walk is used. Air is pumped into a doughnut-shaped fabric tube that extends into a round tunnel.

  • It can be used as a thoroughfare across a river when secured to the ground and a tree at each end.
  • A motor and propeller create a powerful flow of air.
  • The air nozzle has a screw-in profile to prevent air leakage.
  • Aluminum alloy, which is light and strong, is used for the metal components. When deflated, the tube can be folded and packed into its storage case.

Air Rope is a 2013 red dot award: design concept winner.

Straight From Chopping Board To The Fire

The Curling Pan is one heck of an innovation! Just imagine popping the cutting board onto the fire and get cooking right away! This means that the board is the pan. Crafted from shape-memory alloy, it transforms from a flat cutting board to a frying pan when it comes in contact with heat. The edges start to curl up after a certain temperature. This is because of the nature of the material with which it is made from: shape-memory alloy with a two-way memory effect. The material takes one particular shape when it is cool (flat board), and another when it is heated (frying pan). As it heats up the color of the pan changes from white to yellow to red.

Curling Pan is 2013 red dot award: design concept winner.
