Beyond a Blowdryer

Chances are the words “communal blowdryer” spark some less than desirable mental images from your last visit a hotel bathroom. Not cute! The OBLOW dryer solves many of the functional and aesthetic issues of current models with a cordless, minimal, wall-mounted, easy-to-clean design. That’s easy enough… but the heart of the system is its digital interface that allows users to play music, schedule a taxi, check flights, locate points of interest and anything else a traveler needs!

Future Of Washing

A trip down the isle of washing machines in an appliance store tells you that not much innovation has come about in the design language of these machines. Innova hopes to rectify this with its futuristic design language and innovative techniques. This washer-dryer concept uses only steam for cleaning, and consumes much less water compared to the current crop. Thanks to its ergonomic design, the drum of the machine is perched at an angle and gives a better view inside.

The extra-large transparent door and rear glass window give a very clear view of the cleaning process. The absence of a conventional interface only means that you need to use an app on your smart device to control it. The color of the feedback light in the door’s inner ring indicates the stage of the cleaning process.

Features:

  • A pipe connector delivers water to Innova, which is converted to steam and pumped into the drum through nozzles during the washing cycle.
  • The steam cleans and sterilizes the fabric.
  • For the drying process, the drum is heated and the water that is vaporized from the fabric is released through the ventilation grills at the rear top part of the machine.
  • A detachable ‘fragrance box’ allows scent to be delivered into the drum during the process with the help of the steam.

Innova is 2013 red dot award: design concept winner.

Dry Undies in a Flash!

Designed for areas that widely rely on clothes lines, the Ôyer portable dryer is for smaller garments like underwear & socks that often require faster drying, especially during wet seasons when air drying takes longer because of humidity. Garments are placed within a protective bag inside the unit where fresh air is circulated. Internal sensors detect the humidity level in the air within, adjusting the temperature and air flow to dry clothes in the fastest and most efficient way possible.

Super Clean Food

Tabii is a food sterilizing and washing unit that gives storage life with a drying option. The focus of the project is to come up with solution to combat future water shortages and the ‘Turkish habit’ of food drying. Hence the unit works as a sterilizing, washing, drying, and dehydrating appliance.

How it Works:

Tabii washes the fruit and vegetables by the ionized water for total sterilization with minimum water usage. Ionized water kills more than 99.9% of harmful germs by oxygenated mixture of positively and negatively charged nano-bubles. The appliance makes it possible to choose consecutive processes like ‘wash and dry’ or ‘wash and dehydrate’. Drying and dehydration is achieved using ultrasound technology. Ultrasound dehydration permits the removal of moisture content from solids without producing a liquid phase change. Unlike the conventional dehydration methods based on hot-air drying, it cannot deteriorate the quality of the final product.

Dry in a Jiffy

The SecO clothes dryer bridges the gap between large tumble dryers and clothing lines in an intuitive appliance that’s no bigger than a coat rack. It uses long wave infrared ceramic heaters with radiant directional wavelengths that oscillate water molecules, making them evaporate so that clothes are dry and wrinkle free in minutes. Ideal for compact apartments, the design folds down and can easily be stored under a bed or in a closet. It’s a quick and easy solution after you’ve been out in the rain or just need a quick dry for damp garments.

The base unit contains a low power, practically silent fan which draws the moist air down through holes in the aluminium tube and through a dehumidifying container in the base. This container holds self-indicating colour changing desiccant silica beads which dehumidifies the air. As the beads become saturated their colour changes so the user is aware they soon need recharging. When fully saturated, the beads can be recharged by placing in a microwave.

SecO will intuitively communicate the state of drying to the user. When it is switched on frosted LED backlit panels illuminate. Humidity sensors determine the humidity of the immediate surrounding area. As the clothes get dryer, the humidity decreases and this is visually represented by the LEDs becoming dimmer. The user can determine the clothes are getting dryer without having to touch them.

Far infrared ceramic technology only uses low watt ceramic heaters. The other electronic components also only use a very low amount of power. This results in incredible low running costs of 5p an hour with an average running time, to dry 6kg of washing, of 4 hours. This is respectively the best and cheapest way to dry your clothes. It won’t damage your clothes like some tumble dryers. It has no carbon emissions, is it completely eco-friendly and won’t leave drying lines like some mechanical airers.
