On My Fingertips

Love the idea of my index finger serving as a phone and the Nokia FIT. Hands-free Headphones is all about that! Crafted from soft silicone and flexible rubber, the phone is waterproof and has basic functions of texting and talking. Notifications are received through vibrations and the ergonomic design makes all the buttons accessible. Take it along for a dip in the pool or keep it wrapped around the finger, as the phone is extremely lightweight.

The Must-Have iPhone Fix

AUGMENT is a concept developed from frustration with protective phone cases and their incompatibility with basic fundamental accessories. (For instance, a user might find it difficult to dock the iPhone 5 or 5S with a case present.) This product family reimagines all the necessary peripherals to charge, dock, or rock out with headphones seamlessly without frustration of the case getting in the way. Until the next iPhone is released with a solution, it’s your one-stop-shop for getting all those accessories in order!

A Good Tilt

I am sure there is a very good reason for cell phones to have a rectangular battery. I’m not going to dispute the reason but instead present Ji Hye Park’s idea. The Tilt Battery is simply designed with a sharp slope on one end. This is so that it’s easy to load in the battery and removes all ambiguity of which ways to slide it in! Awesome!

Surround Sound With Smart Audio Phones

Audio Phones is a surround sound cell phone that uses a 5.1 multi-channel audio system. The concept addresses the need for innovation in the field of sound technology in Smartphones. Unless you pair the phone with great portable speakers or headphones, you feel shortchanged in the audio department.

In short, Audio Phones is a surround-sound cell phone that produces clear, pure, and overwhelming sound performance. Inspired by the stingray, the phone has been designed as such that each audio output point is hidden under a raise in the phone’s surface.

  • A power amplification module and six speakers (high pitch, left channel, right channel, left rear, right rear, and subwoofer) are integrated.
  • Each of the speakers is separated as an individual sound chamber, functioning independently yet in coordination to produce the effect of a home theatre system.
  • The curves at the top, bottom, and four corners of the phone make it comfortable to hold.
  • The inner shell of the phone is made with translucent material.
  • The sealing ring for each sound chamber is made with optical transmission material.
  • Colored LED tubes are installed on the main board, and flicker with the rhythm and genre of music under the control of the programme.
  • They can emit a single color or many colors at once, creating a unique glow.
  • The user can select an outer shell from multiple colors and material options.

Audio Phones is a 2013 red dot award: design concept winner!

Why didn’t Apple think of this?

This might just be the feature that Apple needed to give their iPhone 5S and 5C release the “oomph” it needed! OptUX lets users get the most from the 5′s larger screen size without sacrificing ergonomics. The interface can tell if you are holding the phone in your left or right hand, automatically articulating the apps in that direction so their within reach of your thumb. Perfect for working with one hand!

A Flex Phone Would Be the Best Phone

The concept of smart-watches is hot right now, and even though there are a lot of designs floating around, none have kept us from thinking “yeah… but you still need a phone.” The Limbo, however, is quite different. It seems designer Jeabyun Yeon has discovered the missing link between our transition from handheld smartphones to smart-watches. Design-wise, the idea wasn’t to stray away from anything that might be remotely phone-like, but instead to merge the benefits of both. Why choose one when you can have both?!

The Less is More Phone

While the majority of modern smartphones focus on more, more, more to increase productivity, the CELs phone was developed from the belief that less distraction and “uni-tasking” rather than multitasking is the key to being productive. It focuses on just 4 basic functionalities: music, photography, fitness, and communication. What it lacks in apps (even internet!), it makes up for in a cool, quirky aesthetic and a straightforward, user-friendly interface!

Designed to be rotated at the middle, it has two sides, one with the Cell phone interface and other with the music player. By rotating the either side of the device the user can turn on the camera or the fitness device. While using any of the four (i.e. cell phone, music player, camera or the fitness device) the other functions of the device are put on standby mode. It encourages uni-tasking to build a more focus and productivity.

Whether you’re diving into emails, documents, or your favorite book, reading is made easier on the larger screen with bold text that won’t tire your eyes.
