Electro Kicks

Designed for bicyclists and joggers, Adam Nagy’s Lacoste Laser Cruiser shoe features electroluminescent fabric that not only gives the shoe head-turning style, but an added layer of defense and safety. Much brighter and longer lasting than glow-in-the-dark plastic, the EL fabric can be activated and deactivated by the wearer so they are glowing only when they want to be seen. Simply hold the heels together for a few seconds and BAM- Tron lighting at your feet!

Cork Wallets And More

Someone once told me that wallets are best when designed in red; the color attracts money and keeps the coffers full. I am on the lookout for my perfect red; however interim I don’t mind replacing my tired old wallet with this beautifully cork crafted one. Simply called the Subrr, the minimal design supports durability and style. Available in two versions and in two types of cork; both can hold 1-10 cards and cash; however, the cards + cash version has 3 separate compartments.

Cork is as durable as leather but water resistant, and harmless. I love the earthy color and the design philosophy behind the creation. Know more about the project here.

The Ultimate Power Pack

Designed for everyone from the urban commuter to the adventurous camper, Prism is the most digital-friendly backpack out there. Like any good pack, it’s waterproof, shock resistant, comfortable, and quickly accessible. But what sets it apart is a built-in 4000mAh solarcharger that delivers power to your phone, tablet or other electronic devices. Solar panels located at the top are always exposed to the sun while you’re wearing it, so as long as it’s shining you’re getting juice!

How it’s made:
The polycarbonate frame was CNC cut out of a sheet of 1/4″ thick Lexan, and bent into shape on a cold-steel bender. It’s entirely removable, which was a manufacturing decision to simplify the sewing process. Basically, the fabric skin is made of dual layer polyurethane-coated nylon for water-proofing and durability. This skin is stretched taught over the frame, and then zipped up around it, which keeps the whole system in tension, providing a tesseract of sorts for your laptop or tablet on the inside.

With ever-changing fashion trends, increased awareness about fashion and the unique need of having outfits for different activities, Plexus explores the concept of clothes in the future- a time where garments may be held together by pixelated nano-particles, reacting to their surroundings with color changing properties. At home it’s a regular casual T-shirt, but walk into the office and it becomes a suit! Jump to the vid to watch it morph!

Time Till Now

Communication is the key element in watch design and the Till Watch fulfils this norm by speaking to you visually. Exemplifying the relationship between now and then, this cool time-telling machine doesn’t believe in cold numbers. For example, its not 10:50, it’s “Ten Till Ten.” If you ask me, I’d like my watch to read… ’Till death do us apart!

Available in Black and Brushed Stainless Steel at CKIE.

MONDO and DUO 24 World Timer Watches

The award-winning Botta-Design has much to take pride about; talk about 50 awards under their belt (including red dot) and the revolutionary modern one-hand watch design by founder Klaus Botta! As a big fan of horology I am completely mesmerized by complication in a watch and especially features like world time. The MONDO and DUO 24 World Timer Watches are watches for modern everyday life and not just globetrotters like me.

Think about it, if you live in a country like the US, you need to know the three time zones on the tip of you fingers not confuse Eastern Time with CET – Central European time! World Timer Watches eliminate the risk of confusion with just a glance.

Let’s talk about the DUO 24 first, this is the first-ever dual time-zone watch based on the one-hand principle. What this means is that it shows both the local time and the time at one additional time zone, using just one hand in each case. The outlying main display shows the local time, and the 12-hour hand points to the same one-hand scale that has been used in the UNO.

The watch also features a secondary display that can show any second time zone that you fancy. To avoid the confusion surrounding daytime and nighttime, just follow the artificial horizon on the dial; it sets things straight for you. Powered with a RONDA 515.24H Swiss Made movement, you can team this beautiful watch with a vegetable tanned leather strap, steel link or rubber strap.

The MONDO features a more classic design and hosts a central 12-hour display using three hands. In this watch only the outlying 24-hour display is based on the one-hand principle. For the daytime distinctions, an artificial horizon divides the 24-hour ring to reflect the same. The positioning of the 24-hour display at the outermost edge of the dial gives the scale maximum resolution and makes it very easy to read.

If you were to ask me what makes both these watches stand apart from the rest, then it has to be the feature where the hands are set completely independently from each other, allowing the you to choose half and quarter-hour time zone offsets. It’s a rare feature to find among dual time zone watches, so this is a genuine advantage offered by Botta-Design.

Impressed! So much so that it’s worth taking advantage of the 10% Discount that Botta-Design is offering to our YD Readers!

Time with a Twist of Orange, Please

Conceived for use by the blind but stylish enough to appeal to a broader market, the Nike Citrus watch’s spiral form stretches to fit any wrist size and hints to its zesty inspiration: an orange peel twist. To tell time, the wearer simply touches the tactile, concave face to feel for the hour and minute hands. Unlike many other products for the seeing-impaired, this one can be universally appreciated and mass-produced to keep unit prices low!

Death of the Wall Clock

The BIBO watch (name derived from the Indian name Biboswan meaning Sun God) is a response to the modern work week, which renders wall-mounted home clocks useless when no one is there from 9-5. The entire face unit is removable and can be left on the wrist band, or placed in a tabletop dock where it projects the time onto a wall using a built-in mini-projector! However different, both the strap and dock are stylistically connected by sharing the same striking Madhubani geometric art pattern.
