Bizarre Kanye West Show at PS122 Finds Kanye West in the Audience

This writer is a little dead to the world right now, having reached the end of a very long week. So let’s start off a little slow and goofy this morning and see if things improve before we pass you over to Stephanie this afternoon or we stay on this level-but-entertaining plateau. First comes news of a series of performances that ended last week at the NYC non-profit arts center, PS122, entitled “Why Won’t You Let Me Be Great!!!” which took each song off of Kanye West‘s 808s and Heartbreak and gave them to individual artists or groups to come up with something. The Art Newspaper reports on the performance based off of West’s “Love Lockdown”:

…performance artist Ann Liv Young [who has a great website] came on stage, completely naked, and berated the rapper for his most recent album “808s & Heartbreak”. And to add to the bizarre diatribe, while she was complaining that the CD was not his best work, Young rubbed barbecued pork onto her genitals, before eating it.

We’re not exactly sure what to say after that. Well maybe that what makes this all the better is that West himself surprised everyone by showing up one night during the show’s very short run. That makes it even more surreal — though maybe even more off-putting.
