I often have mixed feelings about safety features designed into products; while safety is good, I feel it makes us increasingly less wary while using potentially dangerous products.

Nevertheless, I’d probably buy Italian manufacturer Ariete’s auto-lift iron. The safety mechanism is both simple and ingenious: Once you let go of the grip, it automatically pops up on little feet, raising the ironing surface off of the fabric.
