Adidas Live Quest Paintings

Day 1: The Link. South Africa scores the opening goal of the tournament

The World Cup is drawing to a close this weekend, but if you’d like a lasting commemoration of the tournament, Adidas and 180 Amsterdam may have just the thing…

Day 2: The Power House. Steven Gerrard’s goal for England – remember when it all seemed so possible? Sigh

Day 3: Teamgeist 4-0, Germany pulverise Australia

Two emerging African artists, Paul Kasemwana and Espoir Kennedy, have been commissioned by Adidas and 180 to create paintings daily throughout the tournament, celebrating key moments from the games. Each painting is available for purchase via eBay, with all proceeds going to Nelson Mandela’s 46664 Foundation. A couple have already sold and some of the auctions run out in a matter of hours, so act fast if you want to pick up your favourite. I’ve put links to the ones shown here that are still available under the images, plus visit adidasthequest.com to see more available works.

Day 6: Unite – a celebration of team Bafana Bafana. Bid to buy it on eBay

Day 8: American Dream. The USA scores a last-minute winner to finish top of Group C. Bid to buy it on eBay

As part of the project, there are also 32 portraits of Adidas’ star players from each country currently on display in the Adidas media centre in Johnannesburg, and on a mobile scoreboard that is travelling around the city during the tournament.

Day 10: In Concerto. Kaká sets up a Luis Fabriano goal against the Ivory Coast. Bid to buy it on eBay

Day 11: Oleeee!!! David Villa scores twice for Spain against Honduras

The paintings form part of Adidas and 180’s wide-ranging ad campaign for this year’s World Cup. If you like this aspect of the work, you should also check out the Adidas online Live Graphic Novel, here.

Day 14: The Shock. Slovakia knock out the holders Italy, with a shock 3-2 victory. Bid to buy it on eBay

Day 16: Black Star. Happy days for Ghana, the only remaining African side, as they qualify for the quarter-finals. Sadly, their days in the competition were numbered, however. Bid to buy it on eBay
