Adam Buxton sends up Ro.me making-of film
Posted in: Uncategorized
Comedian Adam Buxton has created this brilliant send-up of the ubiquitous behind-the-scenes videos that accompany all interactive projects (and most ads) nowadays…
Buxton’s victim is the making-of film for Chris Milk and Aaron Koblin’s Ro.me project (see ro.me) but he frankly could have picked any number of such films. The formula for each is the same: some imagery from the project is combined with earnest interviews with all the key contributors, from the director to the tech guys. The film above follows the usual format until about halfway through when suddenly Buxton appears as Tron Thighes, Inspiration Wrangler at Google Louche Lab.
He then talks us through the project, describing how “you can see a lot of things you don’t see on the street”, and that he is most excited about seeing the code: “Press a little fucking button and you see all the numbers! So many little tiny numbers.” Happily, Chris Milk appreciates the joke and has even posted the film on his YouTube account, with the comment “well deserved, and well done”.
Buxton has presumably had to watch a number of such films in his tenure as presenter of the Bug music video events (see bugvideos.co.uk), but he also has form in such mockery. It is worth checking out clips of his stint as film industry legend Ken Korda on his site. I’ve posted Buxton-as-Korda talking about the movie In Her Shoes below, but there are many more such delights to be found online at adam-buxton.co.uk.
