A quick spot of festive furtling

This charming little magazine insert fell onto my desk the other day and has since caused much infantile amusement. It’s for Fentimans lemonade and introduces one to the concept of “furtling”. Click through for the cheeky reveal…

In a rare example of an insert that you actually pick up and look at, this strange postcard invites the reader to “place the portion of the hand indicated against the aperture above and review the scene overleaf”.

Essentially, you make a fist with one hand and hold it under the card – thus you are engaged in “furtling”; the art of simulating anatomical features using the hand.

Haha. Risqué.

The point seems to be that to make for a more satisfying lemonade beverage, you should “up-end and invigorate bottom”. Clearly a good excuse to run a nice little bum gag in an ad campaign.
