Pop Up Gallery by Studio Aandacht

Praalkast-2

Ben Lambers, yes the genius behind the Bloesem logo, just send me these images of the Pop Up Gallery, which took place in their studio/home for Inside Design Amsterdam organised by Dutch Elle decoration.

Praalkast-1

Every year the avant garde of Dutch design showcases their work during these days, perhaps you remember last year's report on Bloesem. This year the event took place on different locations at one of the newest neigborhoods of Amsterdam called Ijburg… according to Ben a wonderful place to live.

Studioaandacht

The Pop Up Gallery was called, 'wand'meubel = 'wall'furniture… displaying the work of Nienke Sybrandy and the 'wand'meubel itself was designed by Dutch designer Jeroen Wand

I believe Tatjana Quax, Ben's wife, who has been a stylist for the longest time for many magazines and often for Elle decoration NL, has had quite the influence in creating this Pop Up Gallery. The color she has chosen on the wall is just beautiful.

Tatjana

Just some images of previous styling jobs Tatjana has done … perhaps you recognise… Slow Wood above or this work for Volkskrant Magazine..  and let me not forget.. this book: How They Work, one of my absolute favorites!

Set-1-final-hr-1

If you would like to work with either one of them or both for an upcoming project don't hesitate… just email them!

St Bride Library: Critical Tensions

The tenth annual St Bride Library conference will take place this November; its theme the notion of ‘tension’ in creative practice…

Design is fuelled by relationships integral to the discipline: colour and form, form and function; client and designer, analogue and digital. And a resulting piece of work is quite often the product of a unique tension between two elements.

For Critical Tensions, curators John Walters and Becky Chilcott have invited speakers to discuss how they balance and manage opposition in their work and in their pursuit of ‘perfect tension’.

The theme also taps into another prevalent issue: that times of economic constraint can engender creativity. Moreoever, how has the creative industry responded to the societal changes we’ve witnessed in the last few years?

Speakers set to discuss these issues and more include Phil Baines, Jonathan Barnbrook, Zoë Bather, Tom Farrand, Amelia Gregory, Matt Jones, Alan Kitching, Gerry Leonidas, Vaughan Oliver, Paul Rennie, Lucienne Roberts, Jack Schulze, Steve Watson, Matt Webb, Rebecca Wright and Derek Yates.

The moderators for the event will be Phil Baines and Emily King and there will also be demonstrations by Paul Antonio (calligraphy), Douglas Bevans (bookbinding), Mark Frith (stonecutting), Helen Ingham and Richard Lawrence (typesetting, linocutting).

The two-day event takes place between November 10-11 and tickets are available, here. They cost £120 at full price; £90 for Friends of St Brides Library; and £50 (£35 Friends of St Brides Library) for full time students. The money that St Brides raises from its talks and conferences directly supports the Library. More details on St Brides and its activities at stbride.org/library.

Joby GorillaPod Micro

New super-compact tripod that fits in the palm of your hand
joby-2.jpg

Joby is notorious for their creative ideas in photography support systems. With their roots in twisting, winding, magnetized tripods for cameras of all sizes, today the company announced two new and exciting additions to their product line. The GorillaPod Micro 250 and GorillaPod Micro 800 take portable and compact tripods to a whole new level.

joby-1.jpg

Weighing only a few ounces the 250 supports up to 250 grams of photo snapping action while its big brother the 800 can support up to 800 grams. Both models fan out to form a sturdy base for your camera, and while closed fit easily in the palm of your hand or left attached, aren’t obtrusive. The mini-tripods also have a steel mount which has thirty-six degrees of tilt motion in any direction to allow the user to position their camera as desired. A must have for any on-the-go photo enthusiast, these tiny tripods are a great way to gain some stability without adding clutter or weight.

Available today from Joby for $20 (GorillaPod Micro 250) and $30 (GorillaPod Micro 800).

TrakRok

TrakRok vehicle is an alternative design solution intended for all season off-roading mobility. Powered by sustainable renewable energy, the vehicle is composed of light weight exoskeleton assembly construction. Utilizing a wheeled locomotion swing arm design, delivers TrakRok performance advantage in environments of rough terrain, and harsh seasonal conditions.

ATV vehicles are responsible for more casualties in children and adults than any other leading recreational transportation out there. Safety and sustainability are the social value of my design, offering an alternative new outlook at problems of safety, the TrakRok is the design solution that introduces new features in a conceptual context which would decrease hypothetical number of casualty rates. At the same time taking into account the sustainability factors, which play a major role in the product life cycle and the effect on the environment. Utilizing new biodegradable materials provides a greater efficiency in recycling and disposal of parts as a whole.

Sotheby’s Launches Your Art World Web Series

The auction house Sotheby’s would probably like you to just ignore Teamsters Local 814, their fight against the now eight-week long lockout of the union-affiliated art handlers, or the videos posted, like this one where protestors stormed a recent auction as part of the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations. Instead, they’d most likely prefer that you shift your attentions to this week’s launch of Your Art World, a four part series spread out with one per week, documenting all the parts that make up the Sotheby’s whole. Up first, and just launched yesterday, is “The Artist” episode, featuring conversations with the likes of Jeff Koons, Ronald Ventura, Cai Guo-Qiang and Amy Granat. Well shot and interesting (though Koons’ quiet voice is still vaguely creepy for some reason), it’s certainly worth a watch. Whether it makes you decide to ignore all that other business is up to you. Here’s a preview of the first episode:
