Announcing Coroflot Genius Gallery, A Contest and Showcase Celebrating Inspired Visual Work

blurb_week1.jpg

This summer, Core77 & Coroflot have partnered with Blurb, the online photo book publisher, to bring our readers the Coroflot Genius Gallery, a contest celebrating some of our members’ most inspired creative visual work. Each week, we’ll review and select eight new portfolios to feature, showcasing exceptional and original work chosen from their portfolios. Additionally, twice a month, two lucky featured members will be selected to produce their own printed book of work (a $200 value) via Blurb. Check out our first week’s selected entrants and our very first book winner, Jasmin Darnell, and congratulations to all of this week’s selections!

Clockwise from top left:

Jasmin Darnell (Wellington, New Zealand) – Jasmin brings fairytales and dreams to life with her heartbreakingly gorgeous portraits.

Glenn Jones (Auckland, New Zealand) – Glen is smarter than your average novelty T-shirt designer—his consistently clever work never fails to delight.

Pavel Karpushkin (Kiev, Ukraine) – This graphic designer who demonstrates his keen sense of image and text in posters and menus.

Pravin Gaikwad (Pune, India) – Pravin’s visually dazzling automobile designs really jump off the screen.

Raul Arbeloa (Madrid, Spain) – The aspiring concept and digital artist is equally comfortable creating lush landscapes and highly detailed renderings

Negin Ehtesabian (Bristol, UK) – Negin’s playful, expressive art and illustration offers a glimpse into another world of wonder and imagination.

Nenad Gucunja (Novi Sad, Yugoslavia) – A self-described “web and graphic design master-blaster,” Nenad channels his comic book and hard rock influences into eye-popping artwork.

Sue Nguyen (Seattle, WA) – Nicely executed graphic design work is characterized by compelling geometry and mesmerizing patterns.

Are you a creative genius? You could win $200 credit towards producing a great book of your own work. Visit the gallery, and enter your Coroflot portfolio today!

Hazel & Hunter

Spacey patterns in a Montréal-based designer’s hand dyed textiles

Hazel&Hunter-MC6.jpg Hazel&Hunter-MC5.jpg

Working from her small studio in Montreal, Julie Deault hand crafts each Hazel & Hunter piece using locally sourced fabrics consisting of only the highest quality natural and organic fibers.

With simple and classic shapes, Hazel & Hunter‘s totes and clutches stand out for their fabrics. No bag is alike as the hand-dyed process produces a unique finish each time for a bag that is one-of-a-kind. This passion for textile design is translated to furniture as well, with bold throw pillows that spice up any space with a psychedelic pop of color.

While the material is organic, the fun accessories are sturdy enough to hold all your essentials. If you are in the market for a more summery, bohemian piece check out the new collection, “Les Nomades.” Otherwise, Hazel & Hunter‘s previous collections feature geometric patterns that evoke both the patterning of a handmade quilt and the graphics of cubist and futurist art. For your sustainable bag, visit Hazel & Hunter‘s online store or Etsy shop, where prices typically span $30-70. But if you can hold out, Hazel & Hunter will soon be available at Urban Outfitter’s Space 15 Twenty
in L.A for purchase in person.
