USPS Pioneers of American Industrial Design Stamps

Happy World Industrial Design Day! For all our philatelic readers or folks who appreciate sending letters the good ol’ fashioned way, the United States Postal Service released a new collection of stamps today honoring 12 legendary mid-century American industrial designers:

Raymond Loewy
Donald Deskey
Walter Dorwin Teague
Henry Dreyfuss
Norman Bel Geddes
Dave Chapman
Greta von Nessen
Eliot Noyes
Russel Wright
Gilbert Rohde
In celebration of the release, the Cooper-Hewitt will be hosting a dedication ceremony this morning here in NYC. The Pioneers of American Industrial Design stamps are a nice followup to the Eames set USPS released in 2008.
With designs ranging from furniture and electric kitchen appliances to corporate office buildings and passenger trains, the work of these 12 designers defined the look of modern America, and in so doing, revolutionized the way we live and work. These are the designers who brought us the1939 New York Worlds Fair, transportation ranging from Studebaker and Greyhound to Air Force One and the Twentieth Century Limited. They designed Radio City Music Hall, the original Kodak Brownie camera, IBM Selectric typewriters and bright and colorful Fiesta dinnerware, among many other things.
