Trochut’s Trojan Wallpaper* typeface

Wallpaper* magazine’s forthcoming September issue will sport a new typeface created specially by illustrator and typographer Alex Trochut

Entitled Trojan, Trochut’s bespoke caps-only typeface has been used to set all the headlines in the dedicated fashion issue. The idea was to commission a typeface that referenced the modern calligraphy that appeared on many of the invitations received by Wallpaper* magazine inviting them to fashion shows (check out this slideshow of dozens of Wallpaper*s fashion show invites).

“Actually, Alex was super busy when we got in touch,” explains Wallpaper*’s art director Meirion Pritchard who met Trochut in May this year at New Zealand’s Semi Permanent festival, “but he’d been working on a new typeface which we thought fitted perfectly with what we were hoping to commission,” he continues. Alex was then able to react to the imagery and titles relating to the issue and create type settings that complimented the individual characteristics of each story. So the various set headlines held together as an overall theme for the issue but also worked separately too.”

The September issue of Wallpaper* is out this Thursday August 9. wallpaper.com. See more of Trochut’s work at alextrochut.com.
