Featured Stockist: the workroom online shop

the workroom in Toronto has been a wonderful stockist of UPPERCASE magazine since the beginning. They’ve recently launched a webstore and have some nice things on offer such as these curated colours of embroidery floss, sewing patterns, Japanese craft books and UPPERCASE magazine. They have issue 7 in stock (soon to be out of stock everywhere, get yours now if you want it!) as well as #8, #9 and #10.

A Collection a Day on ModCloth

I was very happy when ModCloth contacted me a while ago, with interest in stocking some UPPERCASE products. From initially selling vintage clothing, their offerings have grown and diversified considerably over the years, but the quality of their website, blog and creative offerings is still very impressive. Their product shots are great (I like the zoom feature) and they have started to create short videos as well.

Recently Lisa Congdon was featured in this video interview that presents A Collection a Day so very nicely. Thank you to everyone at ModCloth for highlighting Lisa and our book in this way! Well done!

“We all save, store, pile, and stash, but author Lisa Congdon makes her curated clutter look absolutely envious! For one year, she catalogued her collection of collections for all to see, photographing, sketching, and sometimes even painting the treasured tidbits that filled her home and studio. Now transformed into a petite paperback, Congdon’s calendar year of accumulated objects will captivate you with its simple charm. Pictured in situ or on a plain white background, her compositions of mushrooms, mugs, and matchbooks draw the viewer in, while they inspect every detail and difference. Moved to make your own anthology of adorable knickknacks? Use the reusable tin that holds this bitty book to begin your own inspired collection of vintage postcards or paperclips – and don’t forget to document every addition. Your shelves are about to look sweeter!” Click here to shop at ModCloth!

Featured stockist: Inkwell, Halifax

It is always nice to be welcomed by a new stockists, and a particular honour when a brand new shop wants to open their doors with your wares on their shelves. Inkwell Modern Handmade and Letterpress Boutique in Halifax, Nova Scotia has just opened a few days ago. Congratulations, Andrea — and thank you! From the few photos on their blog, it looks like a nicely curated shop.

Featured Stockist: Good Egg

Good Egg in Toronto’s Kensington Market has been a regular stockist for a long time. I would love to visit their beautiful shop in person someday!

“Good Egg is a shop dedicated to those who like to eat. Come by for a kid-in-a-candy-shop experience. You’ll be among books and things devoted to the art and culture of food, and some silly stuff too. Art, eh? Consider this: if food, like sleep, is a basic human need, and we dream while we sleep, should we not dream while we eat? Good Egg thinks so.”

This nicely illustrated and lettered image, below, is by regular UPPERCASE contributor Alanna Cavanagh.

Thank you to proprietor, Mika, for her kind support of UPPERCASE magazine!

Featured European Stockist: Magazero

Magazero is an online destination for interesting magazines from around the world. The site was bourne out of love of the medium:

“The aim of Magazero is to make the best magazines from around the world available.

When Borders closed down I realised how much I missed having a store that I could just wander into and browse the magazine racks. Sure, there are many great mag stores in London and a few where I live, but it seemed that the distribution channels for the world of independent magazines were closing down. Most people wouldn’t have a local store that stocked this stuff. And even in the great stores, I was aware that a lot of mags were missing.

So Magazero aims to bring you not just the same old favourites but to ferret out magazines from around the world and make them available. This makes me an importer, I locate greatness and bring it home and make it available to anyone. It’s a complicated business but endlessly satisfying.”

You can purchase issue #6 and #7 from Magazero and they have a special offer of free postage for European orders!

UPPERCASE in Chicago!

Hi everyone! UPPERCASE magazine will be at the Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago this weekend. Alas, I wish I could be there personally, but Emily at Orange Beautiful will be stocking the magazine at her booth. She also has some covetable back issues and copies of The Elegant Cockroach and The Suitcase Series: Camilla Engman. Look at this lovely sign she’s made:

(The wording is hers! What an awesome compliment, thank you.)

I always enjoy the Renegade graphics by Kate Sutton:

You can also enter the raffle to win a free UPPERCASE subscription at the Renegade Craft Fair booth. Thanks again, Emily, for promoting the magazine and selling it in your shop. Have a great crafty weekend.
