Perfectly Imperfect Furniture

Gotta love the whimsical, storybook-looking Seasons furniture series. No two pieces are exactly the same in the handmade collection of stools, benches and tables. Although diverse in dimension and function, each is constructed in the same process in which mortise-and-tenon joints are used to connect hazel branches and an oak top. A mixture of sawdust and glue are used to fill and smooth the connections, resulting in an organic, smooth and seamless form.

The pieces are burned and treated with wax. After the top is sanded they are polished and treated with oil. Hazel branches, chosen for their strength and straightness, introduce a natural dynamic into the final structure and give each piece a distinct character that is marked and numbered.

Sea-Inspired Seating

This unique, marine-inspired design adopts the basic form of one of the world’s naturally occurring sculptural elements, the seashell. The elegant shape has always attracted the eye of artists, scientists and designers and like the seashell, this design’s eye-catching, bilateral symmetry and natural strength are also sure to pass the test of time. Contrasting cylindrical cushions, expert craftsmanship and a subtle nautical feel make it a great compliment to classic and contemporary spaces alike.

Deceiving Softness

Inspired by the caterpillar’s many co-functional legs, this stool by the same name features interwoven plywood pieces that move and reshape to adjust to the seated person. Though it appears rigid, the design is unexpectedly flexible and elastic as the links (held together with bungee cord) mold to the user’s body.

Functional Beauty

The AERO chair’s simple interlocking technique makes for a functional and downright gorgeous design that’s sure to withstand time. The design, composed of just 2 pieces, can be assembled simply by sliding the back/front-leg component into the slit of the seat/back-leg piece. Its unique support system, immediately apparent in its aesthetic, makes it just a little easier to store and transport.

Shady Seating

This clever seating series by Duffy London is sure to get plenty of head turns as it plays with the viewer’s perception! Each chair has a permanent, unwavering shadow that acts not only as a visual peculiarity, but an integral part of the cantilevered support structure. Chairs appear to balance on two legs and, complimented by various shadow characters, it’s almost believable!

Skin and Bones

Inspired by the natural reduction of the skeletal system, the Pelleossa chair’s name literally translates to “skin and bones.” The handcrafted wood and stretched fabric chair combines the best of traditional workmanship and modern production efficiency. Each chair is made with a conventional “turn and copy” technique, where the repetition of only two diameters (30mm max and 15mm min) optimizes both the usable material

Spikey Seating

The Icicle Chair applies wintery inspiration to gothic style to form one eye-catching seating solution! The design looks somewhat threatening with its sharp spikes but is contrasted by a sleek, uniform seat and back. The dungeon-esque design certainly isnt for everyone, but one thing’s for certain, it’s sure to be a conversation starter!

Antisocial Chair!

The Booth lounge chair was designed for those times when all you need is a little darn privacy! A soft hood surrounds the seated individual to muffle sounds and keep them partially out of sight. The removable hood can also be detached for a more casual and approachable look.

Skeleton Inspired Furniture Series

The Spaceframe furniture series is based on the natural form of a vertebrate- a central “backbone” element defines the overall shape of the chair and branches out into a set of “ribs” that form the seat. Composed of CNC machine-cut plywood, the components are planar until combined, without screws or adhesive, into the final 3D cross-bracing structure.

A Spin on the Stool

Gotta love this modern twist on the adjustable stool by Coordination Berlin- the Thread Family series of stools features a seat and thread connected by a wedge-joint in a cross shape that’s visible from above. Like the seat, the thread is also carved out of American walnut, creating a unique, bold aesthetic contrast to the colored, steel base.  In three slightly different variations, the Thread Small Stool, Thread Bistro Table and Thread High Stool function as an attractive combination or each as a single piece.
