Alon and Betsy are the founders of this design agency that specialises in turning real-estate in Paris into beautiful, elegant and warm living-spaces. The home of Dutch online shop founder, BijzonderMOOI*, Sandra Jacobs

Images by Sanne Tulp and Anke Helmich from StyleCookie.

D:: Dutch is …complaining about the rain, curtains open at night, ‘gezellig’ (which is a bit like ‘cozy’ in English but actually more than that ), only one cookie with your coffee (not me) and of course Dutch design, which besides vintage, I am really addicted to!

E:: Entrance, when entering my home you will notice… high ceilings, we live in an old house from the 1920’s with lots of original detailing, lots of space and lots of light streaming in through large windows.

Livingroom2

S:: Style means … .being original and staying true to yourself. As a person but also in my work for BijzonderMOOI*. Trust your own instincts, and don’t just copy something someone else does.

N:: New in my home is … the print of 'aardvark manifesto 2010', which reminds me of the good things in life that I should not forget to do: “kill your tv, bake cake, drink tea, write letters, love all the people, keep it wonky, life your life, make stuff, be kind!”

Kidsroom4

H:: Hobby, I always make time for … cooking, watching movies and reading books

Sandra Jacobs runs according to me the best online shop selling Dutch Design. All the big names are part of the BijzonderMOOI collection… Ineke Hans, Richard Hutten and Ontwerpduo… to just name a view. I love the layout, the down-to-earth feel and the basic style of the shop. It makes shopping and navigating around very easy. It's even a small library where you can find detailed information about the designers.

For all these beautiful images we have to thank two very talented ladies, Sanne and Anke, a photographer and stylist who combined their forces online by opening a magazine-like-shop calledStyleCookie.

Huis-bloesemblog---01

The home of Claudette Halkes from Uitgeverij Snor … SnorPublishers

D:: Dutch is the language in which we (Snor Publishing House) publish most of our books. Snor was founded in 2006 by my partner in crime and business Annemarieke and myself. We love to make quirky books and have a great time together doing that. And from now on we will also publish books in other languages. World, here comes Snor!

E:: entrance, when entering my home you will notice that our home used to be a primary school. The living room has high ceilings and the windows are big and high positioned. So in former days the students wouldn't be distracted by looking out of the windows during the lessons. It's a special feeling that our living room was used to teach children writing and reading for years.

Huis-bloesemblog---03

S:: style, means knowing what makes you feel comfortable, happy and beautiful. Knowing what suits you best, in fashion, living, everything. And style also has to with to be able picking beautiful little things out of a bunch of crap.

Huis-bloesemblog---05

I:: interesting places in my city Utrecht are the wharfs and canals. For foreigners it's nice to see that you can wander around the city by the canals everywhere. A very quiet and beautiful surrounding is de Nieuwegracht/Museumkwartier and the Singel. I live nearby. In the museumquarter you can also find the Central Museum with a good collection and the famous Nijntje Museum in front of it. The Domtower is the highest tower in the Netherlands, you can climb to the top. For the rest: good coffee at Broodnodig. Good food at Eetcafe Te Koop and Luce. Good shopping: Strand West.

Huis-bloesemblog---07

G:: gardening is something I'd like to do more, but most of the time I buy plants and stuff and than my husband puts them in the soil after some days… But I love our garden (a piece of the backyard of the former school), with sun and a big tree in the backyard. It's a very quiet place in the centre of Utrecht. With our 'school-neighbours' we share another piece of 'garden' behind our gardens. The children can play together there and once a year we have a big street/school/garden party together with a pot-luck dinner, bbq, drinks and music.

Huis-bloesemblog---02a

N:: new, in my home are the screenprints of Sue Doeksen. Sue is a very talented young illustrator and we from Snor are happy to have worked with her. We made a book: 'Cheerful in 3 1/2 months' and Sue did all 107 illustrations for the book. We made screenprints of 4 illustrations.

Huis-bloesemblog---06

H:: hobby, I love to cook!

O:: outfit, my favorite thing to wear is right now a leather skirt! Never had a leather skirt before, I bought it in Antwerp and I am very happy with it.

Huis-bloesemblog---08

M:: magazines I love to read are Elle Decoration, ELLE Decor, Jan, Wallpaper, CUT magazine, Vogue. Actually I love to read magazines, at Snor we get a lot of inspiration from magazines, even if they are not so high standing.

Let’s Get Personal in Chicago, US with Linnea Dunham

Uusi_kitchen_photos

A:: American is… multitudinous, open, brave, joyous, impulsive and untamed.

M:: My walls in our home are covered with…Benjamin Moore Atrium White.

Uusi_bedroom_photos

E:: Entrance…when entering my home you will notice…we have a lot of light in our space. The building is an old, industrial structure with huge windows and high ceilings.

R:: Room in my home that needs restyling…we are building a pantry right now. We remodeled our kitchen recently and took out all the overhead cabinets. We wanted to move food & general storage to a small, separate space right off the kitchen with open shelving so it

was easy to access and see what we have. Freeing up the kitchen from all that heavy cabinetry and clutter has made it so much more inviting to hang out in and a fantastic space to work in – I want to cook all the time!

Uusi_bookshelves

I:: if I could live in a different place or home it would be…Upper Peninsula, Michigan. I love the forests, lakes and all the snow.

C:: Craft projects that I love best are…Ikebana. I practice what Peter jokingly calls, “Guerrilla Ikebana”. I make arrangements only using plants or wildflowers found around our place in the city. No market flowers allowed. It is surprising and somehow reassuring how much beautiful, wild plant life you can discover in such an industrial area.

Conference_table

A:: Art in my home comes from…mostly friends, some lucky, cool finds on ebay and a few gallery purchases….like the work by Anna Kunz on the wall.

N:: New in my home is… a table Peter designed and built for the kitchen.

H:: Hobby I always make time for…reading. Anything by Thomas Mann makes me delirious. Love classic, Russian literature. Love the painterly, deeply trippy world of South American novels. Anne Sexton. Walt Whitman – any writer whose work lets me use my mind and not my eyes to see the world.

Uusi_office_photos

O:: Outfit, my favorite thing to wear is…my Paul Smith Kings Road boots. They were stupid-expensive, but 4 years later they are still super-cool, (and finally paid off on the credit card – ow) and basically, the only boot I want to wear.

Uusi_bathroom_photos

M:: Magazines I love to read are…I have a subscription to New York Magazine that I read cover to cover and do the crossword puzzle at the end – pure bliss. Elle Decoration UK is always wonderful. I used to stalk the Japanese magazine Dune, until it vanished. I love the photography & styling in the French kid’s magazine, Milk – I would also like to read the articles but spent too much time goofing off in highschool and not enough time studying my French – “cest la vie” (lame, I know, but fitting). And, thanks to my Mom, I have had a subscription to National Geographics since I was 10. That iconic, yellow cover is a touchstone to my childhood and practically an architectural element in our home now.

E:: Enjoy, I can’t live without…my cats, Gun & Monkey.  Does that make me the crazy lady?

Uusi

After selling their first company Binth Linnea and her partner Peter started a new brilliant company called Uusi… a creative studio for product design, graphic imagery and architectural interior elements…you can find all their beautiful products here in the shop…don't miss the Advent Calendar or their blog.
