Happy weekend

Instagram_oct

Officially my weekend has started, it's early Saturday moring and we have a full-house … friends and family are visiting from the Netherlands and I am enjoying having them around us. When I look back on the last week of posts on both Bloesem and BKids I feel a bit proud that so many beautiful things are being created by so many different people around the world and that Bloesem enables me to capture them al together in this online journal. I am also a bit proud that Bloesem is growing in every sense of the word … Sufiya is now a part of the Bloesem team and in two weeks time she already has done a great job updating our pinterest boards, introducing me to crafters and designers here in KL and started our new facebook fanpage…  just a week ago … thank you to all of you who pressed the LIKED button already!

Above just some random snapshots above from my instagram folder … I really enjoy this instagramming are you already on instagram?? You can follow me here and do leave a comment so I can follow you too.

my collections

Irene-hoofs-objects

I was experimenting with my camera (nikon D7000) last week … i am the person who loves and cherishes small things that were either given to me or bought my self … every little item has special value to me …

image above: my new threads from Angela Liguori … I have so many ribbons from her already and couldn't resist buying some spools of this gorgeous wrapped cotton thread too , the spoon I bought in china town and the felt brooch was a present from Arounna from Bookhou a long time ago … she should be selling these too don't you think?

image below: new ribbon from fog linen work, the brooch again 🙂 , paper stars given to me by Jurianne Matter the first time we met, a little candle holder that i bought in a thrift shop and the copper key is from an old clock my parents had at home and a glimpse of one of my new fog linen trays

Hope you like my little gems too …

instagramming with Bloesem

Instagram bloesem blogs
It was the lovely Peta from LoveMae, (met her in person last week at the NYIGF) who convinced me I should start instagramming … first I thougt nnneah … but her enthousiastic words made me sign up andsuddenly it starts to grow on me and I am even enjoying it very much!

What I like best about using instagram is the fact that it gives me the oppurtunity to share things I like in my own home instantly with you… just a small snapshot is all it takes to give you an impression of my personal stuff, things I am doing during the day and more.

It is also a bit magical because you mostly see details … you have to use your imagination to figure out the whole picture 🙂

A couple of ways how to follow me if you wish …

go to the instagram app on your phone and find me at: Bloesem Blogs

Or visit Bloesem Blogs at the Followgram website

or use the rss feed ….

Thanks for the Follow and I hope you will enjoy my pics! ~irene xoxo

Our Amsterdam place

Wallpaper_2000

Good morning lovely readers I hope you have missed me the last couple of weeks … I certainly missed you and am super happy to be able to post this morning. I have had a wonderful vacation in Spain with my family and am enjoying some quality time in the Netherlands right now with my friends.

Luckily for me I can stay in our own Amsterdam apartment which normally is rented out but tenants moved back to their home country and I am currently doing a huge re-decoration/renovation so new tenants can move in after the summer.

Great to empty out many boxes that were stored about ten years ago when we left this place. I found this huge pile of old wallpapers (1998 – 2003) and was happily surprised with the still sublime-looking covers. I believe back then wallpaper was a bit more trendsetting and new then nowadays but I admire them for being around for such a long time on high-quality level.

I think I am going to keep them … still very inspirational.

Haarlem and the Muscle Lamp by Jos Kranen

Joskranen

My days here in the Western part of the Netherlands are so inspiring and relaxing. Yesterday my sister and I visited Haarlem, close to Amsterdam with has many nice shops… a new one called Greenwich Village was particularly interesting due to this bautiful Felt Lamp by Dutch designer Jos Kranen called the Muscle Lamp. Greenwich Village doesn't have a website

yet but you are more than welcome to send owner  Mariu Giovannini an email if you have any questions about the lamp.

Fleurie

After our shopping spree we went back to Bloemendaal to have a lovely lunch af Fleurie. The ambiance in the village restaurant is always warm and uplifting, I really liked the words on the black board saying: Hooray It is Today.

A very special Birthday

I could not have wished for a nicer celebration for Bloesem's FIFTH year anniversary than the lunch that was given to me today by de 'Drukke Dames' (= Busy Ladies) in the design and art shop Friday Next in Amsterdam.

When Jurianne Matter heard about me coming to the Netherlands this month she immediately emailed me with an invitation for a get-together with some of her creative friends. Most of them I had met online during the last five years but none of them in person before.

It felt like a real blind-date, exciting and inspiring!

And this blind-date was a just wonderful and exactly how I like it, personal, intimate, honest and real. Not a big party but simply enjoying the fact that Bloesem has done this for me… bringing me together with super creative and talented people:

Parool PS with Bloesem

Paroolps

Welcome to you, the new reader, who has found me via this article in Dutch newspaper, Het Parool. And thank you Maaike Schoon for the very kind words you have written about Bloesem and me. I was delighted to hear that you were going to write a story about design/living blogs and wanted to hear my opinion and background. The five other blogs you mentioned, Apartment therapy, design*sponge, Emmas blog, desire to inspire and the selby, are also big favorites of mine so happy to see them too.

Parool

And how cool is that… Het Parool even used a picture of my home for the cover. Love seeing my vintage cabinet by German design label interlubcke and the design lamp by possibly Joe Colombo for Italian brand iGuzzini that I bought last year in the Netherlands in a vintage shop. I wish it is possible to still use my vintage Ericsson Cobra phone, probably the best phone design ever.

Marjon Hoogervorst made the picture for the cover.

Bloesem online garage sale…

Bloesemgaragesale1

It is time for my family and me to move house again and I thought selling my goodies and collectables online would make more sense than bringing them along in carton boxes…

All the products you find in my shop originate from previous entrepreneurial endeavors… I once had my own cards collection, selling at BARNEYS New York and Selfridges & Co in London, designed a baby shoe collection that was sold in many shops in the Netherlands, almost started a knitting shop in Toronto, but had to move on again… and all the other goodies are small collections I bought during my travels in Asia…

Iittala and Orla Kiely… 2 new gifts from my friends

Ittalla

Dear Bloesem readers, time to take a little break for this super tired women… after three weeks of going back and forth to Singapore, two little sons that keep me busy during their school holidays, having wonderful friends here from the Netherlands visiting us and setting up a new pillar for Bloesem, which will launch May 9, I just need to take it slowly this week and leave you with only one post… so I can get some rest and prepare a whole bunch of nice-ness for next week… i hope you understand? love irene xoxo

Like I said I have some wonderful Dutch friends over for a short visit, who I met while living in Toronto. They brought this beautiful gift for us,  a plate and two serving bowls from the new dewdrop collection called Kastehelmi by Oiva Toikka for Iittala. The plates fit perfectly well with my mix of vintage, ikea and marimekko tableware 🙂

Orlakielybook

…and then I was even more lucky last week when this book arrived in my mailbox. Another gift from another friend… she is expecting her first baby any day now and I helped her creating the birth announcement, perhaps I can show you soon on BKids. The new Orla Kiely book has been on my wish-list ever since I saw it appear in the blogland and I can only say the book will not disappoint you. Pattern by Orla Kiely is absolutely very inspirational and a true feast for your eyes… who doesn't love Orla? Thanks Marjolein!
