Our California office is looking for an experienced graphic designer with strengths in developing packaging, marketing collateral and on-line communication. Candidates should have 3 to 5 years of experience, supported by strong visualization skills, comfort working in multidisciplinary teams and excellent communication and internal “client” facing skills. The ideal candidate will have an extremely keen eye for detail, and the ability to create flawless production ready art-work. Flexibility in-dealing with shifting priorities and looming deadlines is a pre-requisite.

Last week I was for the fourth time in South Korea, this time at the invitation of the Busan Design Center (located in Busan, Korea’s second largest city, at the very south of the country, with the world’s fifth largest port).

Since I was a speaker at a couple of international design conferences during their 2010 Design Week (see presentations here), the main topic of conversation was of course design, and what I saw and experienced in Busan and Seoul, which I also visited, left me more than impressed.

The New York City Taxi, The San Francisco Trolly, The Oscar Meyer Weiner Mobile…. every 60 years or so one of these iconic pieces of transportation is up for a re-design. This year it was time for the Routmaster, the archetypal red double-decker bus that cruises through London with amazing agility. Determined not to suffer the fate of the the classic NYC yellow Check cab, the city of London engaged a variety of UK coach builders to deliver design proposals in 2008 to improve on the classic Routmaster. The winning Wrightbus design was unveiled this week at the London Transport Museum. It pays homage to the classic while still looking forward… this handsome lad is quite asymmetrical.
