Congratulations to the “Sustainable Refrainables” Poster Design Competition winners as voted by the Core77 community. First place goes to the playful entry pictured above Reduce, Reuse. by framecio who wins a copy Adobe’ CS5 Master Collection and $500 cash–Nice!

Mesh 01 Skate Footwear Design and PENSOLE Competitions

MESH01 is a co-creation platform that focusses on footwear, eyewear, and accessories. It links designers and brands worldwide. Together, they create and launch innovative products for the SportStyle industry. They have been running a series of great competitions two of which going on now are the PENSOLE Talent Search which will be judged by D’Wayne Edwards of Brand Jordan and a Freestyle Skate Competition that I will be judging and giving extensive feedback to entrants all through the process. Winner to the Freestyle Skate Competition get copies of my book, “Analog Dreams” first prize in the PENSOLE competition is an awesome scholarship to their program at PENSOLE Parsons New School.

If you are interested in getting into footwear, these might be two great opportunities to dip your toe in, pardon the pun… head over to Mesh 01 and check it out.

We realize with the holidays and all that some people need a bit of extra time to complete and upload their videos, storyboards, and sketches, so we’re extending the to the deadline to the Powers of Ten Video Response Competition to February 2nd. (That’s nicely 2/2/11 in the spirit of things). If you’d like to participate there’s plenty of time to create, post, comment or vote.

Core77 Announces Autism Connects, an International Design Student Competition!

Core77 & Autism Speaks are proud to launch Autism Connects, an international student design competition to help individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The Challenge
Design students are invited to produce new and innovative technology-based solutions to assist individuals with ASD in their communications with others and, in doing so, to increase the public’s understanding of this unique and growing population.

Special Jury Award
The jury will award a grand prize of $5,000 to one individual or team. In addition, Autism Speaks will award creators (or one representative in the case of a team entry) of the top three designs a $1,000 stipend and registration fees to attend the 2011 International Meeting for Autism Research, to be held May 12 to 14, 2011 in San Diego, CA, where they will be invited to present their design concept.

Popular Vote Prize (Community Prize)
$1,000 – First Place
$500 – Second Place
$250 – Third to Sixth Place

We just wrapped up the “Sustainable Refrainables” Poster Design Competition and we’re asking for your help to choose 5 winners who will each receive a copy of Adobe’s CS5 Master Collection. The most popular entry and the Jury choice will each receive an additional $500 cash. The winning posters will be exhibited at Compostmodern later this month and displayed in bus shelters during San Francisco’s Design Week, June 13-19, 2011.

"Sustainable Refrainables" Poster Design Competition: Deadline January 2nd

Entries are pouring in for Core77’s “Sustainable Refrainables” Poster Design Competition in conjunction with Compostmodern 2011. There’s still 4 days remaining if you want a shot at winning one of the five copies of Adobe’s CS5 Master Collection (and $500 cash for the jury and community favorites). Not to mention all top five winning entries will be printed and displayed in bus shelters during San Francisco’s Design Week, June 13-19, 2011, and each winner will receive a copy of their poster.

Quick reminder to the serious contenders, the design brief is to visualize a phrase of persuasion and bring it to life with typography and visual cues—that, and if you want to win—we probably don’t need any more computer warning message metaphors, I think we nailed that one!

IDSA is now accepting entries for it’s 2011 International Design Excellence Awards , and it’s your time to select and submit your best in-production work from the past year. Okay, we know you’re busy! We know you really meant to get an entry in! But somewhere between picking yourself off the floor at the office holiday party at 3 in the morning, apologizing to the new girl and banging out one more caffeine-fueled email promising the client the file tomorrow, you neglected to do the one thing you really really wanted to do this year — the Cardboard Christmas Challenge!
