Surf, sounds and serifs

Set to take place from midday to midnight on Friday, September 2 at The Hague Harbour, (The Netherlands’ premier surf spot, shown above) Now We Are Talking is a new one day type festival with a schedule that includes lectures by well regarded Dutch designers such as Wim Crouwel and Experimental Jetset, and musical performances by the likes of Legowelt…

Organised by Typeradio, a Dutch type-focused radio and podcast station, Now We Are Talking is, they say, “a new free, open air summer type and design festival featuring bands, free speech, films, workshops, surf, camping and love.”

Although entry to the one day event is free, attendees who buy a ‘special package’ for €50 will be able to attend extra type workshops (by Autobahn, Janno Hahn, Lustlab, and Yomar Augusto), and will also receive a limited edition box (pictured above) which includes a selection of previously  unpublished interviews with Gerrit Noordzij, Adrian Frutiger and Ed Benguiat, plus four exclusive vinyl records featuring music by Legowelt, Jacq Palinckx, Supercity, and The Walt (who will all perform live in the afternoon of the event). When night falls, an outdoor programme of type-related films will be screened on the beach.

And if you haven’t got a tent, or a camper van, you could always opt to stay in the Capsule Hotel – which consists of “rooms” that are re-purposed oil-rig survival pods (like the one above) – voted as the most obscure accomodation by Lonely Planet.
