A victim of the Anders Breivik shootings, Iselin Rose Borc has been recuperating with help from her pet dog Athene. Her story, and those of other survivors of the massacre, were told by Andrea Gjestvang from Norway in a set of images which has won this year’s L’Iris d’Or photographer of the year prize at the 2013 Sony World Photography Awards. We have a round-up of more of the winning work

“In the period after Utoya I had a really hard time sleeping. I was afraid of the dark and suffered from dreadful nightmares,” Borc told Gjestvang. “My mom and I decided that getting a dog might help me, so I got Athene. Now she sleeps on top of my stomach every night.” Borch (15) was hiding behind a rock by the pump house on the island during the massacre. She was rescued by tourists in a boat.

Gjestvang’s series, One Day in History, also includes this image of Ylva Schwenke, also 15. “I bear my scars with dignity, because I got them standing for something I believe in,” she said “I hid by a path called The love path.”  She was shot in the shoulder, stomach and in both of her thighs.
