Roland Mouret is taking the creative helm of French shoemaker Robert Clergerie. The French-born, London-based fashion designer is expected unveil his first shoes and accessories for Clergerie later this year, according to a report in today’s issue of WWD. Meanwhile, Mouret will continue to design womenswear and menswear under his own name. “To be the creative director of Robert Clergerie is an incredible opportunity,” he told British Vogue. “For so many people it’s such an important brand and held in the highest affection, as is Robert Clergerie himself. This is a chance for me to work with a master on the art and craft of shoe design and to be part of the special relationship that women have with their shoes.” Clergerie, who in 1978 acquired a venerable French shoe company and soon after launched his eponymous brand, maintains a 10 percent stake in the firm, which earlier this year was acquired by the private equity arm of Hong Kong-based sourcing giant Li & Fung.
