Introducing green molecular science
Merging cutting-edge science with nature-inspired innovation, Seed to Skin Tuscany is one of the few biotech skincare brands to control their entire production in house and the first to adopt what they refer to as green molecular science. This approach extracts and synthesizes molecules from renewable sources, such as algae or botanicals, to deliver highly effective and eco-friendly skincare solutions such as collagen boosters. Through their patented formulations and bio-engineered methods they are helping to shape the future of organic skincare with local botanicals and state-of-the-art technology from their farm in Chiusdino, Tuscany.
The brand was born as a passion project of Jeanette Thottrup from Borgo Santo Pietro who founded Seed to Skin, after her struggles to conceive, along with pharmacist and cosmetologist Anna Buonocore. The two established their first research lab just over ten years ago, expanding in 2018 into a state-of-the-art facility a few steps away from the farm. This is where the magic is brewed today. As Thottrup says, “it’s like a village of skincare… not only do you need a lab, but also a farm with farmers, herbalists and a barn to process all the raw plant material into base formulations before bringing it all into the lab.”
Across the organically cultivated, 300-acre estate, around fifty ingredients are drawn and integrated into the products. Fresh sheep’s milk from their own flock and raw honey from their bees are also incorporated for their incredibly rich and skin-nourishing properties. Everything is then validated through thorough efficacy tests conducted by Mérieux NutriScience to ensure each ingredient has the right chemical constituents and zero toxins before adding to their formulas. Thoughtful formulation has become one of the pillars of luxury skincare today, a standard that involves “genuine care about the ingredients, the wellbeing of those who produce and harvest them, and rigorously testing products for their effectiveness,” as Thottrup defines it.
In just over ten years, Seed to Skin Tuscany has seen impressive growth worldwide, partnering with prestigious spas including the Mandarin Orientals in London and Paris, Lake Como’s Passalacqua and Grand Hotel Son Net in Mallorca. But this is only the beginning, with beautiful new partnerships on the horizon, as the world of luxury skincare continues to evolve toward conscious and mindful directions.
