Print Club London: private view invite

Print Club London is launching a poster exhibition this summer to coincide with Film4’s annual Somerset House screenings – and CR readers are invited to the private pre-show buyer’s night.

The studio has recruited illustrators including Kate Gibb, Anthony Burrill, Joe Wilson and James Joyce to produce an original print inspired by one of the films being shown at this year’s series of open air showings.

17 posters will be released, depicting films including Kes, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Japanese horror Throne of Blood. Each one will be a limited edition of 200 and priced at £40, and the prints will be on display at Somerset House’s West Wing Gallery from August 1-21.

The Print Club pre-show buyer’s night will take place on July 31, from 6.30-10pm. Places are limited but if you’d like to attend, email rsvp@printclublondon.com.

For more information about the exhibition, read our blog post here or visit printclublondon.com

Pink Floyd fans may recognise the cover of our June issue. It’s the original marked-up artwork for Dark Side of the Moon: one of a number of treasures from the archive of design studio Hipgnosis featured in the issue, along with an interview with Aubrey Powell, co-founder of Hipgnosis with the late, great Storm Thorgerson. Elsewhere in the issue we take a first look at The Purple Book: Symbolism and Sensuality in Contemporary Illustration, hear from the curators of a fascinating new V&A show conceived as a ‘walk-in book’ plus we have all the regular debate and analysis on the world of visual communications.
