Nice work for John Lewis, St John Ambulance, VW and more

As the X Factor and Downtown Abbey return to UK television screens, we see the arrival of the first blockbuster TV spots of the autumn. This weekend saw the new ad from John Lewis hit our screens, which is a sentimental tale of two time-crossed lovers….

The ad, from Adam & Eve/DDB aims to illustrate how, while many things in life have changed over the past 80 or so years, some things – including romance, and, um, John Lewis’ dedication to service – have not. Creatives: Aidan McClure, Laurent Simon, Shay Reading, Frank Ginger. Director: Ringan Ledwidge. Production company: Rattling Stick.

Next up is a spot for St John Ambulance from BBH that makes for uncomfortable viewing as it highlights the importance of knowing your basic first aid. Creative directors: Matt Doman, Ian Heartfield. Creatives: Dan Morris, Charlene Chandrasekaran. Director: Benito Montorio. Production company: Blink. VFX: MPC.

On a cheerier note, here’s a new ad for Ikea, which celebrates ‘bright, shiny, colours’. Agency: Mother. Director: David Wilson. Production company: Blinkink. VFX: MPC.

There’s some cute doggy action in this new spot for the VW Jetta from Deutsch LA. Creatives: Mark Hunter, Michael Kadin, Matt Ian, Brian Friedrich, Mark Peters, Matt Sherman, Paul Oberlin, Mike Palese. Director: Noam Murro. Production company: Biscuit Filmworks.

Mehdi Norowzian has directed this new spot for the Audi A1, which hones in on the design detail contained in just one millimetre of the car. Agency: Fred & Farid Paris. Creatives: Fred & Farid, Julien-Pierre Mallet, Volker Gehr. Production company: RSA.

French digital agency Buzzman has created this campaign for MTV Mobile Europe which is centred on a website, gifmemoreparty.com, where users can join a pool party and view events through the eyes of 50 different guests. There are also some hidden cameras to be discovered amongst the party mayhem.

We finish this week’s round-up with this charming ad from McCann Oslo, for Norwegian airline Widerøe Airlines. It stars a young boy captivated by his grandpa’s ability to create ‘magic’. Creatives: Stein Simonsen, Torstein Greni. Director: Marius Holst. Production company: 4 1/2.
