Moss to Reopen Tomorrow

Tony Moxham and Mauricio Paniagua’s Chaquira-beaded Good Luck Baby, available at Moss, somersaults with glee upon learning that the design emporium will reopen tomorrow.
New York City design mecca Moss remained closed today, but we are pleased to report that it will be open for business tomorrow. The store was seized late Thursday by the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance for unpaid taxes, and designers and design lovers were shocked to see government notices papering its pristine Greene Street HQ. A spokesman for the Department put Moss’s tax bill at just under $150,000 for periods dating back to September 2009. “We are, in short, ok,” wrote owners Franklin Getchell and Murray Moss in an e-mail sent Friday that assured friends and colleagues of the famed showroom/gallery/salon that its closure was temporary. “We have put financing in place, adjusted our overhead, and re-evaluated our projections, and are ready to go forward.” They have worked with their tax advisors, lawyers, and an accountant to resolve the situation, and the store will reopen tomorrow morning, according to Getchell. So go forth and splurge on Dror Benshetrit‘s folding light prototype, Marco Zanini‘s fiberglass answer to the question “What if one of those little Monopoly houses was a chair?” or just a set of bargain-priced crocheted finger puppets of deceased celebrities (Jesse Helms and Yves Saint Laurent—together at last). Only 46 shopping days ’til Christmas—here’s hoping Moss’s days aren’t similarly numbered.
