Matthew Ames, Dror Benshetrit Among Rising Star Award Finalists

It’s January, when the fashion world’s thoughts turn to awards and the imminent fall collections. On the platform heels of the latest crop of Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation award winners comes news of the finalists for the Fashion Group International‘s Rising Star Awards. We’re particularly pleased to see Brooklyn-based designer Matthew Ames (himself a 2009 Ecco Domani award winner) among the chosen ones in the women’s apparel category. His Ellsworth Kelly-style colorblocked silks (pictured above) were among the highlights of the spring collections. Ames has some tough—and awfully diverse—competition in fellow finalists Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs (Cushnie et Ochs), Joseph Altuzarra (Altuzarra), Prabal Gurung, Michael Angel, Bibhu Mohapatra, Nima Taherzadeh (Nima), and Brigitte Schwenner (Sievering). You’ll also be interested in the nominees in the home-interior design category: Dror Benshetrit (Studio Dror), Shawn Henderson, Joey Roth, and Luke Vahle (Fifth Season Design).
