Making bad graffiti, better

To promote its offer of a free English tuition trial, online classroom The Tutor Crowd has been correcting some of the capital’s mispelled graffiti…

Chancing upon a bit of errant writing, The Tutor Crowd has been pointing out spelling and grammatical errors on numerous walls, wheelie bins and benches across London. Having marked up the suggested changes to the graffiti, a sticker then points to the Tutor Crowd site and its free offer.

“English tuition doesn’t have to be stuffy, boring and expensive,” runs the copy on the associated tumblr at thetutorcrowd.tumblr.com. “At The Tutor Crowd we’re taking the classroom to the streets, correcting London’s graffiti to spread our message.” The company teamed up with agency Leo Burnett‘s marketing services arm, Arc, on the job which was written and art directed by Dan Kennard and Ben Smith.

As anyone who’s enjoyed snapping the best of urban philosophising knows, it’s of course often the mistakes, intentional or not, that make for the amusement.

I think the original here was “HUNEEZ” which is, in its own way, great.

Of course, this one could also be a missing “in”. Just sayin’ (saying).

Crazy (?) for the kids? Er, OK.

Taken near Brick Lane, London

This really is a new one on me.

Taken in Hackney, London

And a confessional one to end on. Ahem. There is far worse (but correctly spelled) at thetutorcrowd.tumblr.com
