Google's Project Starline: Zoom Meetings in 3D
Posted in: UncategorizedGoogle has developed a new videoconferencing technology that presents each party in 3D. Called Project Starline, you won’t be installing it on your laptop anytime soon; it involves an array of cameras, computer vision and machine learning software and “a breakthrough light field display system,” Google writes, “that creates a sense of volume and depth that can be experienced without the need for additional glasses or headsets.”
Here’s what it looks like in action:
The technology looks amazing, but I think the physical design needs work; the way it’s set up, it looks a lot like the two parties are talking to each other through a prison visitation window, and I’m guessing that’s not the vibe they’re looking for.
“They’ll never find the bodies! I’ll be out of here in no time”
