Geoffrey Todd Smith: Two New Shows

Geoffrey Todd Smith likes to “dazzle himself,” but his upcoming show at Chicago’s Western Exhibitions Gallery is sure to dazzle audiences, with his relentless exploration of beauty in daily life, played out in his mesmerizing painting and drawing hybrids.

For this show, Smith uses titles to comment on social networking, each piece reflecting a self-involved, momentary declaration of his frame of mind while making each one, as opposed to speaking about the work itself. Some of the germanely-chosen names include “Geoffrey Todd Smith is Turned On, Logged In and Burned Out,” “Geoffrey Todd Smith is a Slave to Beauty” and “Geoffrey Todd Smith is Untitled.”

Named a “rising star we should be collecting now” by Chicago Magazine, Geoffrey Todd Smith’s cheeky outlook on life is as refreshing as his zestful illustrations. Read more about the artist in his interview with Fecal Face.
