Fulvio Morella uses woodturner to shape Square the Circle plates

Square the Circle by Fulvio Morella for VDF x Ventura Projects

Italian artist Fulvio Morella presents Square the Circle, a range of plates carved using a woodturner, as part of the VDF x Ventura Projects collaboration.

Exhibitor: Fulvio Morella
Project title: Square the Circle

Fulvio Morella is an Italian artist that uses the craft of woodturning to create contemporary products that “cross the border between design and art”.

The artist’s latest series is a collection of wooden plates, named Square the Circle, which he is presenting at VDF x Ventura Projects collaboration.

Each of the plates is square in shape, and features a circular inlay at its centre that is made of copper or steel to contrast with the wood.

According to Morella this form is designed to break convention, and demonstrate how materials and shapes usually “considered so different that they cannot coexist” can work harmoniously together.

Photography is by Francesca Piovesan.
