Last year when fashion designer Maria Pinto filed for bankruptcy and was forced to close her Chicago-based clothing line, we assumed she’d land back on her feet sometime in the near future. After all, being a longtime favorite of both Michelle Obama‘s and Oprah Winfrey‘s and joining the Council of Fashion Designers of America certainly lends your talents more than a bit of industry cachet. And now it appears she’s finally found a new home, with the announcement that she’s taken on the role of “creative director for women’s fashions” at the retailer Mark Shale. The name might not ring any immediate bells if you live outside this writer’s fair city, but as their press release proudly states, they’re “the largest, Chicago-based luxury men’s and women’s fashion retailer.” Along with the news of Pinto’s hiring came the announcement that the shop has also brought on a new agency to handle everything from branding to advertising to PR, which makes one wonder if a wider expansion is soon on the horizon.
