Dezeen presents The Temporium: take part in our Christmas design shop
Posted in: UncategorizedThe Temporium 2011: we’re now accepting applications to take part in The Temporium, our pop-up design store in London this Christmas.
The Temporium will be open for 24 days from 1 December right up to Christmas Eve and will be located at 65 Monmouth Street in Seven Dials – an area that is fast becoming one of London’s most exciting and charming shopping destinations. It will bring together a carefully curated selection of the most exciting and innovative designers from the UK and beyond, who will sell their products direct to the public.
Shoppers will be able to choose from beautiful and stylish items including tableware, furniture and lighting, homeware, accessories, jewellery and more, plus Dezeen Watch Store will present its full collection of watches by named designers and boutique brands.
The pop-up store
Seven Dials features seven streets of independent boutiques, heritage brands, vintage stores and indulgent beauty and grooming salons. Our store is within three minutes’ walk of both Covent Garden and Leicester Square tube stations.
The Temporium will launch with a press preview and opening reception on 1 December, coinciding with the Seven Dials Christmas Shopping Evening in association with London Evening Standard.
The Temporium 2011 follows the huge success of last year’s event, which took place in Brompton Road from 9-19 December 2010. The store was named by Time Out magazine as one of the best five independent Christmas shops in London.
Revolver shelving
Dezeen has teamed up with designer Henny van Nistelrooy, who will install his Revolver shelving system (pictured above) in The Temporium. Designers can rent a bay of shelves to create their own low-cost concession in the store.
How it works
The Temporium is a fantastic opportunity for designers and brands to both sell their products and get valuable exposure on Dezeen and in the wider media.
Dezeen is taking over an empty shop unit at 65 Monmouth Street to set up The Temporium from 1-24 December. The unit is in a lovely stretch of street that’s lined with boutiques, cafes etc – but it’s a shell with basic services including lighting, electricity, toilet and kitchenette. It has a 55 sq m ground floor sales area and a 65 m lower ground floor.
Dezeen will plan and coordinate the installation of The Temporium – but it’s a pop-up shop and so it will be rough and ready. We’ll install a till, credit card facilities and sales staff to take care of the cash desk. Participating designers and brands will provide stock plus product information and their own display systems if appropriate. Participants can choose to be at the store to explain their products to the public each day or leave it all to us – but we recommend they attend at least during busy times to help sell their products.
We’ll also take care of branding, PR and marketing and we’ll organize a press preview and opening reception on 1 December.
How to participate
Dezeen is looking for designers and brands with products suitable for sale to the public to participate in The Temporium and is offering a range of affordable ways to take part, including installing their own shop-within-a-shop or taking shelf space.
The most affordable way to get involved is to take a floor-to-ceiling bay of up to four 320 x 550mm shelves for product, plus a fifth shelf for your branding. The shelves, which can either be set horizontally or at an angle to display books, cards etc, can be configured as you like.
The price for this for the full 24-day period is £840 + VAT on the ground floor (just £35 per day) or £480 + VAT on the lower ground floor (£20 per day), plus a 10% commission on sales to cover banking and staff costs.
Floor space can also be rented by the square metre, allowing designers and brands to install their own display areas, with prices starting at £840 + VAT on the ground floor (£35 per day) and £480 + VAT on the lower ground floor (£20 per day), plus a 10% commission on sales to cover banking and staff costs.
If you are interested, please submit a single A4 PDF including a short text detailing the products you would like to sell together with images. Preference will be given to designers and brands offering exclusive products or launches, and with innovative ideas for marketing and publicising their involvement via their mailing lists and networks.
The information should be sent to marcus@dezeen.com with “Application for The Temporium 2011″ on the subject line by Monday 7 November 2011. If you are selected, you need to be ready to install your products and display (if appropriate) on Wednesday 30 November.
