Pulau Ubin in Singapore

Pulauubin_rik

Another Birthday in the family this week… Happy Birthday Love of my Life! It was a wonderful day today and I hope you enjoyed it too? We went to a small island here in Singapore, calles Pulau Ubin. Yes for you who didn't know Singapore has a couple of islands and some of them are absolutely worth visiting.

Pulau Ubin is known for it's bicycle tracks, so DUtch as we are we had to go and see for ourselves. We start by driving to Changi Village, but taking a taxi is a very simple alternative. At Changi Village you will find that brings you to the island, only 5 minutes away but a nice little adventure, especially for young kids 🙂 see the image of the ferry here below.

Pulau Ubin is an island North East of Singapore where often said as the last “kampong” (village) in Singapore. When you arrive at the Island you are warmly welcomed by lot's of Chinese decoration and a world of bikes… bikes, bikes and more bikes… al for rent… that's what we did too of course 🙂

Everything at the island is simple and easy, you just follow the path… what I liked during the day, was being outdoors in the jungly forest and of course all the details in the small village. Lot's of chinese temples and offerings. For lunch we went to one of the fish/crab restaurants and after spending around 4 hours at Pulau Ubin we decided to go back home. Of course there is much more to explore on the island but the heath and two very young boys were ready to go back home.

There is an intriguing story about a 'German Girl Shrine' at Pulau Ubin that I first heard about via this wonderful blog by jeffrey and flora,  two Americans living in Singapore. Some people really worship this ghost from the past.. today we did see the sign of a small road leading up the holy place, but we are saving this little adventure for our next trip to Pulau Ubin. If you are already curious than click here and read Flora her wonderful story about the German Girl and her Shrine.

Netherlands-map-full

For the last couple of weeks a lovely lady from Boston named Jennifer Hill has brought a beautiful tribute to my home country.. the Netherlands. She has written numerous posts, including this Biking behaviour fun,  about her love for our counrty and how she is looking forward to be spending some time in Amsterdam soon…

Of course I was happily surprised when she invited me to give a little bit of an insight about my love for Amsterdam, I answered some questions and send her some pics… click here if to see what I mean!

Irenewalking

But that is not all Jennifer does, she also is a very talented graphic designer and she is known for her beautiful patterns, prints and posters. I absolutely love the 'Maps' series. The Netherlands and Amsterdam are recently added and it is amazing how a non-Dutchy has caputered our country so beautifully wouldn't you agree?

Canalarea_outsidegarden

Thank you Jennifer for the warm invitation and the words you have written about me… made me blush! I believe I have not been a muse to anyone else before… well perhaps for my husband 🙂

ps. a report I have written about Amsterdam a couple of years ago is here.

Hello Singapore!

Singapore

Tanjongbeach Tanjong Tanjongbeach2 Tanjongbeach4 Tanjongbeach3

Yes we were again in Singapore last weekend and again we have had so much fun! Perhaps getting to see our new apartment for the first time from the inside really helped 🙂 Yes this is my little secret, last year we bought a small apartment in Singapore. The main reason for us is to have a place in Asia that is our own home, no matter how small our big it is our little haven were we can go to whenever we want to. We will keep on living in Kuala Lumpur but are planning to spend as much time as possible in SIngapore once the apartment is finished. This city is perhaps the greenest city in the world and makes it possible to spend a lot of time outdoors in the parks, beach- or riverside?  We don't have the actual key yet but I have started making mood-boards for the interior decoration. Will keep you posted!

On our way back home to Kuala Lumpur we stopped at Sentosa Island to grab some lunch at this super beautifully styled beach-club called the Tanjong Beach Club, only ten minutes away from the city! The decoration of the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous and I hope I will have a romantic diner their with Rik sometime soon 🙂

…yes a new Title for a series of posts I would like to start here on BloesemLiving…Shop Stop: bringing you an impression from a shop around the world that I like and have visited. I will add these Shop Stops to the Travel section of Bloesem right here so if you are in the neighboorhodd you can go and visit. I'm starting with Pols Potten in Amsterdam today that I visited during the summer. I made all the pictures myelf and was amazed by the friendliness of the ladies working that day. Thank You!

Polspotten1

Pols Potten started in 1986 with importing Mediterranean earthenware to the Netherlands…soon their tiny store became too small for their growing collection of all things beautiful…in 1997 they moved to their

wondeful current location on the KNSM island in Amsterdam. And it is a must-stop for me whenever I'm in the Netherlands. Artists and designers like Wieki Somers, Carola Zee, Bas van Beek en Erik Polstock their designs at Pol's Potten.
