AUGMENT is a concept developed from frustration with protective phone cases and their incompatibility with basic fundamental accessories. (For instance, a user might find it difficult to dock the iPhone 5 or 5S with a case present.) This product family reimagines all the necessary peripherals to charge, dock, or rock out with headphones seamlessly without frustration of the case getting in the way. Until the next iPhone is released with a solution, it’s your one-stop-shop for getting all those accessories in order!

The AVA is a Smartphone cover with unique communicative capabilities. It uses the built-in accelerometer or gyroscope of the Smartphone, to intuitively change your social network status to ‘absent’, ‘available’, ‘busy’, or ‘away’. For example, if you are logged into Facebook, and want to switch your status from ‘available’ to ‘invisible’, then simply nudge the shell to a side-face. This not only changes the status but also changes the mode from ‘ring’ to ‘silent’. The only other corresponding mode is ‘vibrate’.

• AVA transforms your phone in your avatar by functioning as a bridge between the physical and virtual worlds.
• Users can change their virtual status by physically interacting with their Smartphone.
• By leaning the phone up, down or to one side or the other, the user can generate a status: ‘absent’, ‘available’, ‘busy’, or ‘away’.
• This synchronizes with different social networks. The phone will correspondingly be set to the appropriate mode – such as ‘vibrate’, ‘ring’, or ‘silent’.

As customizable as our smartphones might seem, we’re really limited to using the controls exactly how the manufacturer intends. This case-concept explores the use of multi-touch/capacitive sensing beyond the boundaries of the device’s screen. It makes it possible for the user to swipe or touch anywhere they’d like to activate different features. Users can set their own shortcuts and define the controls to their liking, or trigger the device to remember their actions. Make your phone adapt to you, not the other way around!

Key features and settings can be controlled using distinctive multitouch gestures anywhere on the device. For example, if the user wants to control music while running, they can do so without being distracted by the screen. Areas beyond the screen can be used to navigate content and applications. With current interfaces, the user’s view of the screen is impaired by the hand, so areas beyond the screen can now be used to navigate content and applications.

This might just be the feature that Apple needed to give their iPhone 5S and 5C release the “oomph” it needed!
