I start in Singapore…

Foundry_singapore

a new day, a new year, a new beginning … I am very much looking forward to an exciting New Year at Bloesem. The focus will be more on in-depth original content –  Like I said last week on BKids : … I like spending more time making nice posts than tweeting, facebooking and pinning … this social media rat-race has taken me away from the thing I really love to do and that is finding and making nice content for my blogs! I want Bloesem to stay true to her roots: passionate about design!

So starting today I will only share things that have meaning to me and preferably content that I have helped making… like the images you see today.

My dear friend Marjon and I were on an assigment last year in Singapore making a city guide for Anthology magazine. Two shops we really enjoyed visiting were Foundry, one of my absolute favorite furniture shops in town. Why you might ask? Well I really like the brands they carry and the way they have displayed them in their showroom.

Like the green wall below is such an inspiration for me. I would never have thought a color like that would look so beautiful on a wall and I will keep it in mind for any future home. [CONTINUE READING]

A completely different but must-visit shop in Singapore is the little dröm store … the cutest gallery shop carrying items from many designers and artists you probably have seen in blog land from time to time. .

Irene

Some cute little pins caught my attention while snooping around in the little dröm store … founder Alexandra Wong was kind enough to explain to me where the designs came from ..supposedly Singapore has some hidden treasures throughout the country namely some amazing 'vintage' playgrounds with cool sculptures all made from mosaic tiles… truly pieces of art just like the little pins, great remembrance from their past. I really liked the like graphic details on the card.

Littledrumstore

So I hope you like my first post of 2013?

Marjon and I have many more images from shops in beautiful Singapore … drop me an email if you would like to publish them in your magazine or else.

Dutch Design Year in Eindhoven

Dutchdesignyear_new

Dutch Design Year is a store started by a designer herself
Marleen Kurvers (see her gorgeous tube frame light below) . Located in Eindhoven, where talented Ducth Designers come
together to showcase their products. Marleen mixes the old and the new, where you
can also find a collection of vintage products. Great idea Marleen.

Irene and I share the love for wooden products, so I can see
why she picked these pictures. I can easily see these wooden pieces in our
office. I also think that, that the geometric flower vase would be a very unique
addition for a centerpiece don’t you think? ~Sufiya

I love this idea of adding the glass tube frames to the colored cords, Marleen Kurvers is the designer. A light that is reduced to its very essence: one tube of glass, one wire and one contact pin. Depending on the model, the light can be used in different ways by twisting or turning the frame. The tube framed light defines simplicity in production and functionality. Available in different colors.

Atelier Solarshop in Antwerp

AtelierSolar

I already knew Antwerp is one of the coolest places in Europe .. lot's of design and fashion boutiques and the best croquettes in the world :):) … the next time i am visiting I will definetly make a stop -over at Atelier Solar shop

What started as a pop-up shop I believe has turned into a permanent shop selling fantastic vintage pieces. The "PLIA" foldable chair by Giancarlo Piretti for Castelli has been on my wish-list for a long time. And look at the acapulca chairs in the image all the way below … grap them, they are to cool!

Stop Shop: Woonwinkel in Portland

Woonwinkel

Although you probably never have visited Portland you probably know by now that this is one of the hot design spots in the USA. Many talented designers and crafts people live here and recently a wonderful shop has been added to this design district. The shop is called Woonwinkel, which means Home Shop in Dutch, yes funny enough there is a Dutch link…

Joyce de Lange visited Woonwinkel and asked owners a couple of questions. Jocyce also took these images for us. You can find Joyce right here on twitter

Woonwinkel2

What's your name and of your business partner?

Erica Essink and Kristin Van Buskirk are the owners

Are you both from Portland?

Why did you choose a Dutch name for your shop?

I was living in The Netherlands, working as a designer at Nike’s European Headquarters when we cooked up the idea of this shop. Since I was learning Dutch at the time, and for lack of an official name for the shop, we used the word “woonwinkel”. But somehow it stuck. It’s both a nod to the Dutch design that insipres us, and a word that, in english, sounds pleasant and light. Because although we’re serious about excellent design, we also want our shop to reflect the levity that makes a house a home.

Iacoli

When exactly did you open the shop? May 12, 2011

Did you travel to Europe to meet de designers of the products?

Although we haven’t personally met most of the European designers that created our products, it was while living and traveling in Europe that we discovered most of the products and became familiar with the designers. We were incredibly inspired by such design shows as the Milan Furniture Fair and Dutch Design Week, and also some really fantastic retailers of excellent design like Frozen Fountain (Amsterdam), Mint (London), and Spazio Rosanna Orlandi (Milan).

Wagell for Muuto (DN); Best Before (FR); Donna Wilson for SCP (UK); Vontundra (US);  Esque (US); Studio Gorm (US), but they are also a due who studied at Design Academy Eindhoven); Iacoli & McAllister (US); Pigeon Toe (US).

Wonderwood001

*Guest post by Marjon Hoogervorst aka Vorstin

Last month I was working in Amsterdam and had to stop by this shop/gallery WonderWood  to take a look! I've been here before during the Elle Dutch Design Week and fell in love.

This shop and gallery is specialised in vintage plywood chairs and tables from the '40's till '60's and has a collection with over 100 vintage plywood design chairs.

On the outside you see typically wooden window frames and inside the amazing old characteristic details on the ceiling! You feel the passion from the owner here everywhere! So to bring a little bit from this passion over I shot some snapshots and wrote something about it… Read more….

I  love this lamp sculpture called "Standing Drawings" from Jeroen Henneman. The artwork behind the lamp with the beautiful shadow effects is from Aonoine Wiertz.

Wonderwood

I  find this bookshelf amazing! They told me this is the last one… unfortunately this one is to wide for the place where I want to hang this wonderful piece of art.

Wonderwood002

The most inspiring wall for me is the one in the back. Here you see some artworks from different designers collected on the wall. I  want to buy them all!

Wonderwood003

Chairs everywhere: the different shapes are stunning!

A little while ago I started this new column on Bloesem and I do think it's nice to get an idea of how products are being displayed in actual shops…not everything should be about online and the internet right? I came accross Bl-ij via OrangeFarmHouse and loved the pictures that I saw especially beacuse I just found this designer online and loved her paper-cups and then seeing them in the windowdisplay over at BL-ij. …image below are the paper-cups by Yvette Jacobs.

…yes a new Title for a series of posts I would like to start here on BloesemLiving…Shop Stop: bringing you an impression from a shop around the world that I like and have visited. I will add these Shop Stops to the Travel section of Bloesem right here so if you are in the neighboorhodd you can go and visit. I'm starting with Pols Potten in Amsterdam today that I visited during the summer. I made all the pictures myelf and was amazed by the friendliness of the ladies working that day. Thank You!

Polspotten1

Pols Potten started in 1986 with importing Mediterranean earthenware to the Netherlands…soon their tiny store became too small for their growing collection of all things beautiful…in 1997 they moved to their

wondeful current location on the KNSM island in Amsterdam. And it is a must-stop for me whenever I'm in the Netherlands. Artists and designers like Wieki Somers, Carola Zee, Bas van Beek en Erik Polstock their designs at Pol's Potten.
