When we are in Amsterdam

Bloesem Living | Amsterdam place

… this is where we stay … the first 'home' my husband and I bought … last year our  friends XandL renovated our 100sqm and we are thrilled with the result … although the place is not done completely, as we still should decorate it a bit better I feel…but already we find it is quite nice 'as is'…I really wanted to share the images I took with one of my favourite blogs … because XandL deserve the attention!

I have been a long and with that I mean a very long time fan of Remodilista. I truly appreciate how the founding ladies of this blog or should I say online interior design resource still give so much personality to each and every post they share with their huge amount of readers. So when I sent over some pics of our Amsterdam apartment to Sarah Lonsdale I was thrilled she was interested in sharing them at remodilista … so if you would like to go for a short tour … head over to Remodilistaand read a bit more about our special place in the Jordaan

Oh My Home

TakingBreaks_poster

The lovely people from Oh My Home send me one of their gorgeous new posters … Taking Breaks is perfect for our Amsterdam apartment … because this is going to be our place where we will be during our vacations … relaxing, resting, enjoying and taking breaks!

I haven't had time yet to frame the poster but while looking for a spot where to hang it I made some pictures for you. The poster is not just paper … it's  plasticized … meaning  higher quality and longer lasting.

DIY: new upholstery for my chairs

Bloesem_diningroom

Today I would like to share a personal project with you that I finished last week. Two chairs that I bought a long time ago while living in Toronto … vintage chairs in a beautiful shop on Queen street, not sure if the shop is still there?

I never really liked the upholstery but last year I bought a whole roll of this retro fabric for only 6 euros and although I first imagined them as curtains in a perfectly white bedroom I decided to use them for these chairs instead.

The bedrooms here in our new Singapore apartment are a bit brownish already with all the wood used for the cupboards and floors so it was better to use white and light curtains instead. Not sure what I will do with the remaining fabric though 🙂

Upholstering chairs like these is actually quite easy. Just make sure you have the right stapler (you can buy in all the craft and hardware stores). Make sure you follow the patterns of the fabrics and stretch the fabric not too hard but strong enough so it doesn't wrinkle on the top. Corners are always a bit tricky but just experiment a bit and pretend you are wrapping a gift.

Good luck! ~irene xoxo

Little pictures

Instagram_bloesem

It has become my absolute favorite social media tool … instagram. Being a very visual person, these images give me lot's of inspiration, small sneak peeks into other people homes and fresh ideas for products.

I am going to try to at least upload three images per day … will you join me?

Small things in our new home

Bloesem_trolley

Moving to a new home is one thing but decorating the new place is another … not easy to find a good place for all my little treasures…

Before this vintage white serving trolley was standing in our bathroom, but here in the new apartment I thought it rather looks nice in our living room. I  decided to place some books, my moms copper vase and our Ericofon. Would be great if we could really use it again, does anyone know if this is possible…?

Bloesem’s home in Real Living Magazine

Realliving_family

Last week Irene came home with the December issue of Real Magazine Australia with a smile on her face. She must have been happy with the feature. We all are! It looks great! Irene and family would like to thank Real Magazine so much for featuring them and their home here in KL. Being one of her favorite magazines, this December issue is filled with great Christmas decorating ideas too.

All pictures was taken by personal friend Marjon Hoogervorst. Im sure you recognize that name by now. She has beautiful pictures all over Bloesem especially in our Face-to-face a new Designer’s Profile column.

Realliving_collage

The article starts off with what Irene and Rik wants in a home. “open
spaces, high ceilings and a decent sized home office for Irene’s
studio.” This place says it all. After getting to know Irene a little
better I can really say that every inch of this home was thought for and
added a touch of their personality and style even some toys on the counter by the boys.
Every piece that I point to has a
story. “a mix of new and vintage pieces bough on trips to the
Netherlands since their travelling adventures began in 2006.” And yes, I
even asked about the story behind the albino Chinese girl photograph on
the wall. Creating a ‘real home’ sounds easier than done, Irene shares this thought too in the article. [READ MORE]

This is where I spend my weekdays, the office space/crafts room/inspiration room. I love it! And yes, the best part is the full window of natural light and a view of the outdoors. Irene talks a little bit about the ‘black walls’ she has here. For an office like this it’s perfect for photoshoot days and matches well with all our wooden furniture.
As you can see in the picture below, her bedroom has a black wall as well. What do you think? Do
we all love?

Decorating my living room

StringCabinet

I really felt like cleaning out some shelves and re-organise some things in our dining area. Perhaps the loss of my dad and all the sadness around it made me want to start fresh again … you recognise this feeling? Some people go out sporting or shopping I like to stay in my own home and find comfort in the things I cherish … so last Sunday while my boys were playing outside I gave myself some 'me' time .. while listening to some music I enjoyed moving my things around.

Bloesem_string_closeup

Usually I forget taking pictures but this time I thought let's share it with you my dear readers, you have been so supportive of me lately … so I hope you like my small decoration ideas.

I always keep things simple in my home, group things together and try to give proper attention to even the smallest object.                            [CONTINUE READING]

Tin, copper and bras are my new favorites and luckily for me my mom had quite a collection and she was more than willing to pass them on to me. I like how the tinny things are grouped together in a more modern setting. It is probably the color that I like so much. And mixing old and new is I believe always a good idea.

I will mention some of the obeject you see in the pictures. The red bar stool is by Heidi Sebastian for established&sons. Rik and I bought it for our apartment in Singapore but with new tenants living their now we thought better to use it ourselves. I absolutely love the stool and just to let you know it sits very comfortably.

Tin

The shelves are by string from Sweden, but I guess you knew that already 🙂 … a little vintage vase by Tapio Wirkkalla, square robot prints by Vorstin, Italian cotton threads by Carta inc., a ceramic pencil box by Dick van Hoff, blue ceramic pot by inkypots and the rest are thrift store finds.

Art on the wall is by Dutch photographer Anna Tiedink. Some trays by fog linen on the marble table, facemaker by miller&goodman the luxe edition and of course a little picture off my dad.

Irene-hoofs-objects

I was experimenting with my camera (nikon D7000) last week … i am the person who loves and cherishes small things that were either given to me or bought my self … every little item has special value to me …

image above: my new threads from Angela Liguori … I have so many ribbons from her already and couldn't resist buying some spools of this gorgeous wrapped cotton thread too , the spoon I bought in china town and the felt brooch was a present from Arounna from Bookhou a long time ago … she should be selling these too don't you think?

image below: new ribbon from fog linen work, the brooch again 🙂 , paper stars given to me by Jurianne Matter the first time we met, a little candle holder that i bought in a thrift shop and the copper key is from an old clock my parents had at home and a glimpse of one of my new fog linen trays

Hope you like my little gems too …

Happy Weekend and follow me on instagram

instagram followgram

I feel it has been a good week at Bloesem and BKids. Many beautiful pictures … hope you enjoyed them as much as I did. I have also managed to finish a lot of work behind the scenes… but still working on my NY visit report though … it always takes much longer to prepare these things than initially planned for, and I want to make sure I am not omitting any of  the good stuff from NY in the report…so something to look forward to next week…

But I have taken some snapshots from items I brought home from NY via my new addiction instragram. Such a wonderful tool to quickly show you what I have been up to…

From top to bottom, left to right: beautiful tray from studio Piano Nobili, 2013 linen calendar from Lotta Jansdotter for fog linen work, a Donna Wilson plate, MillerGoodman facemaker, paper flowers from Jurianne Matter, tray from fog linen work, fabric by Karen Barbe, beautiful thread from carta inc. and the city calendar from rifle paper & co…

Next week, more and better pics from these items in my home.

Have a great weekend for those of you in Asia and further South…Down-Under…and hang in there for all of you in the EU and US…as the weekend is almost upon you too…I am sure it is well-deserved…

Hope to see you back on Monday and don't forget to enter the giveaway from Ink+Wit or this giveaway on BloesemKids: 2 posters from Paola Zakimi to win!

instagramming with Bloesem

Instagram bloesem blogs
It was the lovely Peta from LoveMae, (met her in person last week at the NYIGF) who convinced me I should start instagramming … first I thougt nnneah … but her enthousiastic words made me sign up andsuddenly it starts to grow on me and I am even enjoying it very much!

What I like best about using instagram is the fact that it gives me the oppurtunity to share things I like in my own home instantly with you… just a small snapshot is all it takes to give you an impression of my personal stuff, things I am doing during the day and more.

It is also a bit magical because you mostly see details … you have to use your imagination to figure out the whole picture 🙂

A couple of ways how to follow me if you wish …

go to the instagram app on your phone and find me at: Bloesem Blogs

Or visit Bloesem Blogs at the Followgram website
