LORRAINE JUSTICE
Dean of College of Imaging Arts & Sciences at Rochester Institute of Technology
Lorraine Justice was appointed Dean of the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences in 2011. Justice has worked in higher education for more than 20 years. For the past six years, she has served as the director of the School of Design at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Under her leadership, the school has emerged as one of the top 30 design schools in the world and one of the top four Asian design programs. Prior to leading PolyU’s design school, Justice headed the industrial design program at Georgia Tech and served for several years at Ohio State University as professor of visual communication. A native of Pennsylvania, Justice obtained her BFA from Edinboro University and her master’s in design and Ph.D. in communications from Ohio State.

KATHERINE BENNETT
Associate Professor of Industrial Design, Humanities and Design Science at Art Center College of Design
Katherine specializes in understanding and analyzing user experiences to discover viable design opportunities. Faculty at Art Center since 1988, she played a key role in integrating research into the studio courses and teaches advanced qualitative methods to industrial design grads and undergrads. Katherine has worked with Henry Dreyfuss Associates, Hauser Associates, Don Chadwick, Saul Bass and the Mega/Erg think tank, and has developed designs ranging from laboratory and business equipment to tableware, gas stations, office and residential furniture and consumer products for clients including Herman Miller, Avery Dennison and Johnson Controls.

DON CARR
Professor and Senior COLAB Fellow at Syracuse University Department of Design
Don Carr was appointed Senior COLAB Fellow for the Syracuse University Department of Design in 2011. Prior to this appointment, he headed the SU Industrial and Interaction Design program for 14 years. He was recently named as the inaugural recipient of the Continuum + Arthur Pulos Award for collaborative and interdisciplinary work in design education and a 2012 Chancellor’s Citation. Previous to his tenure at SU, he worked as a Designer in the U.S. and Europe and has received numerous awards for his conceptual design explorations. Carr obtained a BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology and his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art.

TIM FLETCHER
Business Development Manager at Daedalus
Tim Fletcher joined Daedalus as Business Development Manager in November of 2009. He develops relationships with new clients and also develops and participates in Business Model design projects. Previously he taught industrial design and design thinking at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His background in design and new product development spans both large and small corporations as well as consulting. Tim has worked in the consumer and commercial electronics, infant products and sporting goods industries. He has been working with manufacturers and clients in Asia since 1989. He holds 14 design patents and 4 utility patents worldwide. He received his Bachelors in industrial design from North Carolina State University in 1989 and his Masters of Design (Advanced Strategies) from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2008.

Co-Founder and Vice President, Designmatters, Art Center College of Design
Mariana has been at the helm of Designmatters, Art Center’s social impact department, since its founding in 2001. The agency role that artists and designers play in addressing critical societal issues affecting the well-being and prosperity of our communities is at the center of all of the educational projects, partnerships, exhibitions and publications under her mantle. A native of Argentina, Mariana is a Non-Profit Fellow with the Doctor of Management Program, Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University; she holds an MA in Art History and Museum Studies from the University of Southern California and a License en Letters from the Sorbonne University, Paris.

JOHANNA BLAKELY
Managing Director & Director of Research at USC Annenberg Norman Lear Center
Johanna Blakley is the Managing Director and Director of Research at the Norman Lear Center, a research and public policy institute that explores the convergence of entertainment, commerce and society. Based at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, Blakley performs research on a wide variety of topics, including global entertainment, cultural diplomacy, celebrity culture, virtual reality, digital media and intellectual property law. She has two talks on TED.com: Social Media & the End of Gender and Lessons from Fashion’s Free Culture, and she speaks frequently in the U.S. and abroad about her research. She received a PhD in English from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she taught courses on popular culture and twentieth-century literature. Blakley has held a variety of positions within the high-tech industry, including Web producer and digital archivist at Vivendi-Universal Games.

ALEXANDRE HENNEN
Director of Continuum Los Angeles
Alex is passionate about leading multi-disciplinary teams through extensive innovation programs with an emphasis on brand experience and design. His interests lie in helping clients in the definition and translation of their brand into meaningful product and service encounters. Over his 10 year tenure at Continuum, Alex has led a variety of engagements for clients such as American Express, Nokia, Pfizer, Samsung and Target.

Alex graduated magna cum laude from E.N.S.A.V, receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design. He has taught a class on experience design at Tufts University, and lectures regularly at the Art Center College of Design. Since 2009, Alex co-leads Continuum’s newest studio in Los Angeles.

KAREN HOFMANN
Chair of Product Design and Director of the Color, Materials and Trends Exploration Laboratory at Art Center College of Design
As an Instructor and Chair of Product Design, Karen is instrumental in introducing new design research processes, curriculum and vision-casting projects with numerous sponsors including Nokia, Nestle, Samsung and Nike. She created the strategy for CMTEL and is developing a unique educational program around color, materials and trends. Karen introduced DesignStorms (innovative immersions with Art Center faculty and students) to partners such as Adidas, Volkswagen, Disney and Eastman Innovation Lab to explore future market opportunities. She leads the innovative study abroad program with INSEAD International Business School and created Art Center’s design thinking executive education program hosted at ESADE Business School.
