A: Art means to me…art is my creative outlet.

R: Reading books, blogs, magazines…I'm working through two books right now – Pygmy by Chuck Palahnuik and The Yiddish Policemen's Union by Michael Chabon. I also regularly check out a few blogs including Illustration Saves the Day and Grain Edit.

T: Trends I see in art or graphic design are…I don't really follow trends – I just like what I like whether it's in, out or in between. I'm a huge fan of handcrafted anything whether it is drawn, painted, sculpted, etc.

Blueprintmix

A: Artists I admire are…a list of artists that I admire could go on for days, but I will try to keep it short. I'm obsessed with the work of James Turrell – the environments that he creates with light blows me away every time. I love the work produced by the late Jean Michel Basquiat. I'm also a fan of Aurel Schmidt and Swoon. Tim Walker creates the most amazing fantasy photographs. And I hugely admire the illustrations of the late Edward Gorey, Charley Harper and William Steig to name a few.

N: New in my home is…I recently upgraded my laptop to a beautiful new 15" MacBook Pro. Very needed and probably more exciting to me than most everyone else!

T: Tomorrow I would like to go to…I'm planning a two week vacation at the end of September to Zurich and Tel Aviv. I wouldn't mind leaving a little earlier…say tomorrow?!

S: Studio, my studio is…my studio is my home and my home is my studio.

R: Reading books / blogs / magazines …

There’s is no day without reading. Every book, article or blog is a journey into a new world. Amongst my favourite writers are Martin Bril, Toon Tellegen, Herman van Veen and the grand old lady Hella S. Haasse. Reading blogs is a journey a day, very inspiring. It replaced most magazines.

Favourites; Darling Clementine, Swiss Miss, Nordic Design, Design Observer and Wilfried de Jong. (I’m a huge sports watcher)…………….                                              READ MORE>>>

T: Trends I see in art or graphic design are… On the one hand graphic design is becoming more an strategic art-form, on the other hand there is a kind of revival of the old days (letterpress typography, arts and crafts). It is a great time were everything comes together at the internet. Love all the interaction possibilities. Amazing times.

{House of Cards by Charles and Ray Eames}

A: Artists I admire are… Charles and Ray Eames are still a great source of inspiration. I like the interesting diversity and concepts of Hella Jongerius and really like the athmosphere in the landscapes of painter/actor Jeroen Krabbé, also a great divers person.

Art in the home of Thereza Rowe

A: Art means to me… Creating things I daydream of.  It makes me very happy both personally and professionally.

R: Reading books / blogs / magazines … Such a relaxing activity… I’m reading Never let me go by Kazuo Ishiguro for the second time. It’s that good. Audiobooks have become a big thing for me as I get to ‘read / listen’ to ace books while I’m working.

Visiting my favorite blogs over a coffee break has got to be one of my favorite things to do.

TRowe_2

T: Trends I see in art or graphic design are… Just trends. Trends come and go… I think good work remains timeless. Personally, I tend to be inspired by the classic line, in whatever time or shape it may come.

A: Artists I admire are… Joan Miro, Alvin Lustig, Matisse and Frida Khalo to name a few.

TRowe_8 TRowe_5 TRowe_4a TRowe_4 TRowe_6

N: Never will I … Say never.

D: Dreams for my own work are about…  Growth and happiness.

TRowe_8

P: Projects I'm currently working on are… Album artwork for a Danish indie band amongst other things + obsessively playing with patterns and looking into possibilities and ways of application for those.

TRowe_5

R: Relaxing I do at / when / if… A lot of lounging around on Sundays mostly at home and occasionally do a visit to a good old traditional car boot sale in London.

TRowe_4a

I: Interesting art-places online are… Pretty much every publication and print from Nobrow + it’s nice that   also have great stuff regularly show on their site. And of course Bloesem for daily inspiration.

N: New in my home is… A pair of duck-scissors + a vintage briefcase I got from Camden market, which is now portfolio and a little wood shelf I designed recently.

TRowe_4

T: Tomorrow I’d like to go to… The moon in a hot air balloon.

S: Studio, my studio is… Some sort of organized chaos…. I have a weird habit of deliberately hiding things around the place (such as a set of new pens, a little old frame, papers, anything really) so that one day, (sometimes months or years later) whilst going through a box or drawer I find something… and the happiness, of not even remembering I had it in the first place, is unbelievable!

R: Reading books is a way to learn and forget the self; reading blogs, a pleasurable way to chat with friends and share those tiny daily joys; leafing through magazines, a delicious way to spend time as a coffee cools on nearby table and a pet snoozes on one’s lap.
