Art in the home of Kay van-Bellen
A: Art means to me…seeing the beauty in the everyday.
R: Reading books/blogs/magazines…I collect vintage books. I love the smell, the memories and particularly the old school illustrations which I have been drawn to since I was a child. I have recently found a great British magazine ‘Oh Comely’ which I enjoy, it’s a great find. The list of Blogs I follow are endless. Here just are a few of my favourite blogs: Small Magazine, Simple Lovely, and Where the lovely things are.
T: Trends I see in art or graphic design are…there is a resurgence of old school drawn illustration; however I see the use of touch screen technology having an impact on illustration and the whole practice going full circle.
A: Artists I admire are…I admire the work of David Hockney, particularly his early sketches, his use of composition, colour and line. I also enjoy the work of Joseph Beuys, Ben Nicholson. More contemporary favourites are Stephen Smith of Neasden Control Centre, Camilla Engman and Jaume Plensa.
N: Never will I…put red underwear in a white wash!
D: Dreams for my own work are…I dream for Kay van-Bellen to become a recognisable brand with a house and studio near the coast someday…
P: Projects I'm currently working on are…I am working on applying my illustrations to a range of Kay van-Bellen ceramic tableware.
R: Relaxing I do at/when/if…relaxing for me is a day in my studio, a walk in the woods, or by the coast. Having a great coffee and browsing through blogs and of course running.
I: Interesting art-places online are…Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Big Active.
N: New in my home is…a lovely new garden, with old brick walls and a hammock.
T: Tomorrow I would like to go to…camping, well in a few days time.
S: Studio, my studio is…a calm and sometimes hectic little haven in my family home. It looks onto my beautiful garden. The children have their own little corner where they also make their own creations!!
