Ceramic pots have great value not just because of their intricate, often hand-made designs but also because of their fragility. A single drop or hard bump is enough to break a beautiful vase, and most people simply throw these away, even if there’s just a crack. The Japanese, however, aren’t ones to dispose of what can still be repaired, and so the famed kintsugi, the traditional art of repairing pottery, was born. In a nutshell, this art uses golden lacquer to patch up and cover cracks, resulting in a piece of pottery that is even more beautiful because of its obvious flaws.

Over time, kintsugi became a symbol of embracing imperfections and self-healing, and those are the sentiments that this golden healing notebook attempts to convey. Using an equally traditional screen-printing method, wriggling lines of gold are painted on the notebook’s plain black cover, mimicking the cracks covered up by lacquer in a kintsugi masterpiece. And as with cracks, there is no uniformity or pattern to the branching lines, giving it a sense of randomness that you would find in nature itself. It’s a striking visual, with the gold contrasting with the black, that evokes both awe and wonder, subtly leading the mind to deeper thoughts.

This All-Black Tiny Home Perfectly Accommodates A Family Of Four With A Space-Saving Interior Layout

Designed by Ridgeline Tiny Homes, the Hartley tiny house is bigger than the firm’s Sun Valley tiny home, featuring a length of 27.6 ft. The home is pretty compact, but the extra space has allowed the designer to create a space-saving layout that perfectly accommodates a family of four. Based on a double-axle trailer, the Hartley home features a black metal cladding, amped with generous glazing, allowing sunlight to stream in throughout the day. The home is powered by a standard RV-style hookup.

You can enter the home via double glass doors, wherein you are welcomed by a 290 sq ft floorspace. The interior is finished in plywood, with the entrance leading you to the kitchen. The kitchen is well-stocked, and well-designed, equipped with an oven with a four-burner-propane-powered stove, sink, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, custom cabinetry, and a pull-out pantry. The kitchen also includes a two-person breakfast bar. The kitchen and the living room are connected. The living room includes a sofa, a small deck, as well as a storage-integrated staircase.

The opposite end of the home includes the bathroom. The bathroom is pretty spacious and roomy for a tiny home, and it is equipped with a shower, flushing toilet, vanity sink, and loads of custom cabinetry. The Hartley includes two bedrooms – both are loft-style spaces that you typically find in tiny homes. The bedrooms have low ceilings and double beds. The main bedroom can be reached through the storage-integrated staircase, while the secondary bedroom can be accessed via a removable ladder. The double bed in the second bedroom can be switched to two single beds if needed.

Currently, we are unaware of the price of the Hartley tiny home. We do know that there are plenty of options available for the Hartley including color, materials, and cabinetry choices.

Trailer with a fish-inspired aerodynamic design showcases modular living space and inflatable construction

Travel trailers are becoming increasingly popular and the spike in exhibitors at shows like the Caravan Salon Düsseldorf, only substantiates this fact. With the upsurge in electric tow vehicles, the need of the hour are trailers that have sleeker aerodynamics and smaller form factor to minimize drag and increase range.

Of course, by trimming the size and dimensions of the camping trailer, the comfort will be compromised, but Bürstner from Kehl in Germany thinks otherwise. It is thus coming to the abovementioned RV show with the Talis; a trailer designed with marine-inspired aerodynamics, modular living space, and an inflatable rear that expands its compact form factor for user convenience.

Welcome to the future of trailer camping! Designed in partnership with StudioSyn, the Talis is a futuristic concept that has the potential to be the highlight of Caravan Salon 2024. On the outside, at first glance, there isn’t much difference, but a closer examination shows, as the company confirms, pointed front and the rear of the camper that are “reminiscent of a fish.” The design is a result of multiple run-throughs the virtual wind tunnel software before settling for this shape.

The exterior is pretty compact, yet the interior, featuring slatted wood wall paneling with soundproofing and movable battery-powered lamps, is pretty spacious to accommodate a couple and two children. The spaciousness is possible with the multifunctional Bürstner Air-Xtension System, which allows the rear of the trailer to inflate and permit the fixed rear transverse bed to convert into a 200 x 170cm bed lengthwise. Under the rear transverse bed (without transformation) is the “kids sleeping den.” This child-friendly sleeping space for two kids can double as storage space or garage during the day and can be partitioned off with a curtain.

To enhance the culinary experience onboard is a kitchen module with a double induction hob. This has a portable kitchen, which allows residents to carry its top half outdoors to extend the cooking experience beyond the confines of the four camper walls. Despite the small size, Talis has been provisioned with a twin chamber, a self-sufficient eco-toilet that would function without any chemicals. The bathroom would also have space for a shower and a foldable sink.

Konstantin Chaykin’s ThinKing is ultra-thin mechanical wristwatch that shatters slimness record by 5mm

Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC – measuring only 1.7mm thick – was the thinnest watch we’d known. Now, ThinKing has skimmed the stakes further down to 1.65mm, and a new thinnest watch is born. Before you start searching for retail stores, the ThinKing by Independent Russian watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin is only a prototype and is waiting to break the production mold.

Richard Mille, Piaget, Bulgari, have all been in the race to build the thinnest mechanical watch. All these watchmakers, and now Konstantin Chaykin included, are radically reducing the thickness of watches and delivering the thinnest watches, one after the other. Aptly called ThinKing being the latest wonder, which is build after the fascination with the ultra-thin Bagnolet pocket watch.

Taking cues from the old pocket watch and integrating an impressive, contemporary design with modern technology, the ThinKing borrows its aesthetics from Konstantine Chaykin’s signature Wristmons mechanical wristwatch. Currently in pre-production, there isn’t much known about the watch, but from how it appears, in pictures, we will try and decipher the obvious about this stainless steel case watch.

More details about the pricing and availability of this new thinnest watch in the world will be known after its first outing at the ongoing Geneva Watch Days exhibition. Until then from the obvious, the watch has a thickness of only 1.65mm and has a dial reminiscent of the Wristmons collection’s Joker series, where the apparent two eyes (on the top half) display hours and minutes, while the bottom half is occupied by the brand logo, which replaces the joker’s smile in the original Wristmons.

If you thought the dial was intriguing, don’t miss the caseback. The back displays the built-in K.23-0 movement (with 32 hours of power reserve) without letting out too much, while the major part here is opaque and engraved with “Prototype of the world’s thinnest watch by K. Chaykin — 30.08.2024,” which would ideally translate into an exclusivity number when the watch is ready for retail.

World’s Largest Soccer Stadium Is Set To Be Built In Morocco For The 2030 FIFA World Cup

Architects Oualalou + Choi and stadium experts Populous teamed up to design a truly mindblowing new stadium that will resemble a massive tent. Dubbed the Grand Stade Hassan II, the extraordinary stadium will be built near Casablanca, Morocco, and will be deemed the largest stadium in the world! The Grand Stade Hassan II is being constructed since Morocco will be share hosting the upcoming 2030 FIFA World Cup with Portugal and Spain. The stadium is inspired by a traditional Moroccan gathering called Moussem.

The stadium will be able to hold 115,000 people, proudly making it the largest capacity soccer stadium in the world. It will be larger than the capacity of the current largest sports stadium in the US, which can hold around 107,601 sports fans. The stadium will feature a tent-like form, amped by an aluminum lattice exterior which will offer shade to the visitors, and facilitate ventilation. The landscaping will be highly focused upon, and it will include a ring of 32 stairways functioning as gateways with greenery on the raised platforms. The stadium will include botanical gardens as well and will be home to two local soccer clubs.

“The Grand Stade Hassan II is deeply rooted in Moroccan culture, with its traditions and contemporary expressions,” said Tarik Oualalou, Design Principal and founding partner at Oualalou + Choi and Lead Architect for the project. “It is rooted in ancient and primordial figures: the Moussem, the tent, and the garden, as well as the topography and landscapes of Morocco. It’s a generous space, open to the world and respectful to the nature it protects. The Grand Stade Hassan II de Casablanca is the embodiment of the great tradition of Moroccan hospitality.”

The construction prep has started on a 100-hectare site in El Mansouria, near Casablanca. We are unsure when the stadium will be completed, but it should be done by 2030.

NBBJ uses "softly curving" buildings for adolescent behavioural health campus

Architecture firm NBBJ has integrated a series of curved buildings into a sloped California site to create an “inclusive, healing environment” for a behavioural health campus for adolescent patients.

The 55,600 square foot (5,165 square metres) campus is located in Monterey and serves as a local and adolescent-focused branch of Montage Health, a California-based non-profit that offers physical and mental health services across the state.

The Ohana Center for Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health (Ohana) offers a range of care for pediatric patients and their families who are experiencing conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

The campus is composed of two long, waving volumes that enclose central gardens and a gymanisum, which is located in a third, smaller building.

Each volume was clad in a prefabricated facade made of thin slats of wood that are regularly punctuated by large, rectangular windows.

They contain a range of care facilities, including a residential area, outpatient care, a crisis care unit and amenities such as a cafe.

Primarily constructed using cross-laminated timber, the buildings’ design follows the latest neuroscience research to create “an inclusive, healing environment” for patients and caregivers alike, according to NBBJ.

“The design of Ohana applies the latest in neuroscience research to provide an inclusive, healing environment for pediatric patients, families and caregivers,” said NBBJ.

“Ohana features sweeping views of nature, spaces to promote patients’ sense of safety by allowing them to observe the surrounding environment while feeling protected, rounded edges and natural materials, gardens for therapy and to use in cooking, and private balconies for caregivers to recharge.”

According to the studio, the campus design “celebrates nature for wellness” and beyond its large windows and gardens, was integrated directly into the slope of its site.

The building’s longest volume sits at the campus’s highest point, while the gymnasium and second volume sit slightly downhill.

Inside, the programming was organised around the “severity of the patient’s conditions”, with more public-facing programming uphill and residential areas tucked into the lowest point.

“To provide greater wellness, privacy and safety, the facility terraces down the site,” said the studio

“Spaces are organized around the severity of patients’ conditions, from the most public and lowest-acuity areas at the top to the highest-acuity residential spaces at the base.”

The gymnasium building was centralized to promote movement among patients, which helps people “control behaviours and other cognitive abilities” through the improvement of executive function, or skills used to manage everyday tasks.

The gardens, planted with species shown to boost the immune system, also promote wellness.

“Many patients with behavioral health illness also experience a higher rate of coincident health issues, which can be mitigated in part through heightened immune function,” said the studio.

“Specific plants are located throughout the project, a result of research which shows they activate natural killer cells, boosting immune function by 40 per cent.”

The gardens also provide spaces for staff breaks, as the studio noted staff wellness was another key factor for the campus design.

According to the team, turnover rates in the industry can be as high as 40 per cent, so dedicated areas inside and out were created for staff members to rest.

The team hopes the building serves as a prototype for other behavioural health facilities.

“The building itself becomes an element of our prevention program,” Ohana executive director Dr. Susan Swick. “It creates a sense of possibility, of hope, and the ways in which mental health must be built.”

“Mental illness must be treated and its curable. But it must be built. The building itself is a reminder, a promise, and a facilitator.”

NBBJ recently designed a California school for neurodiverse students and an interactive display to ease young patients’ anxiety at a children’s hospital.

The printer even uses agricultural waste as aggregate to build homes. Currently, this system is being employed to construct some much-needed housing in Colombia.

Designer: United Nations Development Program (UNDP)

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) recently purchased a Crane WASP to build affordable and effective homes in Colombia. The homes are built using local soil and resources. The printer is priced at around US$180,000, which is no small amount. Currently, more than a quarter of Columbian households are suffering from a lack of decent housing – an estimated 3.7 million. Two of three families who do have homes aren’t in great condition either, since the dwellings are subpar and need structural improvements. By utilizing locally sourced soil, the UN won’t need to bring in expensive materials from other lands. This tactic is bringing down costs significantly.

The Crane WASP ( World’s Advanced Saving Project) draws inspiration from the Mason Wasp – a little yet hard-working insect that uses mud to make its own nests. The UNDP intends to install the printers in challenging terrains, where it is difficult to set up expensive and conventional equipment. This equipment would have limited access as well. The Crane WASP is complemented by the local soil, and both work excellently to build homes for the impoverished or homeless.
