The Miravac is the Roomba’s more talented, powerful, and efficient cousin

The Roomba may have been the first robot-vacuum, but the Miravac’s goal is to be the better one. Fitted with a more powerful motor, and calibrated to take on the dirt left not just by the messy human but also the pet, Miravac is a better, more capable, fine-tuned, and affordable robot vacuum with a significantly better performance.

Miravac’s robot vacuums are powered by a powerful motor with 1800 Pa of suction pressure, capable of effectively cleaning your floor, picking up everything from popcorn to pet-fur. Its built-in hair and fur sensor can detect furballs and dust-bunnies, while the slim form-factor allows it to slide under couches and beds with ease. All your dust collects within a detachable tray that you can simply empty into the bin once the Miravac’s done its rounds.

The robo-vacuum can be programmed to sweep and mop your room in certain patterns. You can set up invisible walls and cordon off areas for the Miravac to avoid, while a cliff-sensor prevents the vacuum from falling off platforms, mezzanine-floors, balconies, or stairs. The vacuum runs autonomously, and can be programmed to schedule cleaning times either using controls on the vacuum’s docking station, or via the Miravac handheld remote control. The vacuum cleaner gets to work, brushing all sorts of dirt and dust off the floor and into its suction-vent, running for nearly 2 hours on a single charge before autonomously going and docking back into its charging dock when it’s either done or out of battery.

Miravac’s robot vacuums come in two separate variants, designed for regular floors and carpeted flooring. The Loop model vacuums as well as dry-mops the floor while the Swerve can vacuum-clean as well as brush carpeted floors, pulling out dirt from within the carpet’s dense fibers.

The Loop and Swerve are perhaps the most capable, powerful, and affordable robot-vacuums in their class. Designed to cater to their specific environments, the Miravac vacuums push performance up a couple of notches with their state-of-the-art turbo vacuum motors… and with their early-bird price-tag, they cost around the same as a pair of AirPods.

A design so clever that it changes our perception of medical devices

Hplus is a family of equally beautiful devices that have been thoughtfully designed to streamline the repetitive routine of monitoring nine of the most common health conditions. The assortment of products includes a finger-prick, urine-analyzer, blood tester and spirometer, where all but the most essential of user interactions have been abolished!

What makes this project so fascinating to us as designers, is the thoughtful, empathy-rich approach to design that completely eliminates the stigma that we are so used to seeing with medical products; by changing the form and materials to something we more commonly see in domestic decorations, it dramatically alters how we perceive the products. As opposed to being an inconvenience in our daily-routines, it instead integrates itself almost seamlessly.

Designer: Matt Canham

“The project is designed to alleviate the pressure on general practitioners, by allowing patients to monitor elements of their condition that wouldn’t normally be possible with in-home devices. Underlying this aim, there is a core belief that functional devices should be intuitive and beautiful,” Canham explains.

The devices within the hplus collection are accompanied by a mobile app that acts as the core user interface, handling data collection and test operations.

Inside the app users select the test they want to perform and are then guided through the process of carrying out a successful clinical test. When the GP prescribes a new device, users can scan the barcode on its packaging, automatically adding it into their app. In doing this, the process of learning a new testing procedure is simple and hassle-free.

After tests have been performed, users can view the results within the same application. Data is collated into simplified overviews that show how well a patient is progressing, with a more detailed analysis available when required. When a data set is at a dangerous level, it is automatically flagged and an alert is sent to both the patient and clinician.

The devices that include a urine-analyzer, finger-prick, blood tester, and spirometer, are removed of all but the most essential of user interactions, ensuring that the user experience is streamlined and hassle-free.

Colored fabric tabs reference the individual color palette of each device used within the UI of the mobile application; helping to create a unified product experience and increase users understanding.

A custom folding adapter plug and tangle-free flat USB-c charging cable are included with each of the hplus devices. No instruction manual is needed as to set up the device, users scan the QR code on the back of the box within the hplus application to be guided through installation, while a single button on the base of each design allows the product to pair with the users app.

Each base station or base until features a single button and LED indicator that are used in pairing the device to the users application.

By changing the way we interact with products and the materials they are made from, it is possible to change the associations we give to them, and in turn, make them more acceptable in society and our daily lives.

Making VR even more Immersive!

This beautifully intriguing example of design aims to push the boundaries of VR even further than ever before! The 220-degree viewing angle provides a panoramic view of the virtual world, making the immersive experience of VR even more captivating! To complement the futuristic technology, this headset carries an aesthetic that puts other headsets to shame; any unnecessary lines and crevasses have been removed, leaving a seamlessly beautiful and pure device. Even the little details, such as the adjustment for the headset’s sizing and power buttons have been carefully considered, allowing for them to be integrated elegantly into the form of the device.

The all-metal Wingback Mechanical Pen is a delight for the senses!

With details that would absolutely entice any mechanical-design/industrial-design enthusiast, the Wingback Mechanical Pen is a hat-tip to the reliability of products from half a century ago. Long before planned obsolescence was a thing, products were built to last a lifetime. People would own, use, and reuse products for years, passionately maintaining them for future use, and fixing them if something ever broke. It’s rare to see that sort of passion in today’s products, and the Wingback Mechanical Pen is a rare item that embraces that culture of design-for-perpetuity. Machined entirely from brass and stainless steel – and available with custom engraving for every owner – the Wingback presents a wonderful throwback to the days when products were reliable, and pens were designed to last not years, but generations.

With a classic form on the outside and a high-quality refill on the inside, the Wingback is a really reliable writing instrument. Its classic form sports a knurled grip for sheer tactile delight, and a knurled end-cap that you can screw off to access the pen’s refill on the inside. The Wingback comes with a Fisher PR4 pressurized cartridge; a refill that lasts on an average thrice as long as most refills, and comes with a tungsten-carbide tip that gives it incredible smoothness and strength. The Wingback’s outer body is calibrated for a great writing experience too, with a width of 10mm that feels comfortable to hold onto, along with the metallic construction’s weight that gives you confident, reliable strokes. The end-cap can be twisted to deploy and retract the nib, giving you a neat mechanism that your fingers will absolutely fall in love with.

The Wingback comes in two variants, a pristine stainless steel that promises to look exactly the same even as centuries pass, and a lustrous brass, that captures the old-world spirit, and will develop a beautiful patina over time, as unique as you and the thoughts you pen down.

Wingback – A Custom Mechanical Pen That Will Last a Lifetime

Wingback’s latest creation, the Wingback Mechanical Pen, epitomizes their “buy once” philosophy. Machine turned from brass or stainless steel, it has been designed to last for decades, not months and help its owner rediscover the joy of putting pen to paper.

With a wide 10mm (3/8 Inch) diameter and knurled grip, it sits comfortably in the hand to reduce writing fatigue while the satisfying weight of its materials encourages more time to be taken with every pen stroke.

The Details

– A large 10mm (3/8 Inch) diameter allows for a better grip around the pen barrel means you can write more comfortably for longer
– At a compact 117.5mm (4.63 Inch) length, the pen fits neatly in the crook of your hand when writing and is ideal to tuck in your pocket or bag
– Made in the UK and built to last a lifetime
– Personalization of 50 characters available, laser engraved onto the barrel
– A single handed twist allows you to lock the nib in place with our bespoke mechanism
– Precise manufacturing tolerances stop any unwanted nib wobble
– Includes Fisher PR4 pressurized refill – (Refills widely available from Amazon etc)
– Limited edition artist collaborations launching throughout the campaign

Personalization

Wingback team can laser engrave up to 50 characters on the barrel to your specification, enough space for your initials, name or a personal quote to make your pen a little bit extra special.

Design and Functionality

Over 25 iterations has honed in on this design. A larger diameter barrel means your hand won’t fatigue as quickly as gripping a narrower pen and the knurled barrel provides good purchase for your fingers. The satisfying weight of the pen also acts as a gentle reminder to take more time over your writing and drawing, achieving a neater result.

Materials

The heavier of the two, the brass pen (56g/1.98oz) will develop a unique patina as its surface oxidises and interacts with the natural oils in your hands. This pen will quickly look like a timeless tool, but can easily be polished up to its original lustre.

Slightly lighter than brass, stainless steel pen (50g/1.76 oz) has a harder surface and will not oxidize over time. This means it will maintain its crisp aesthetic indefinitely.

Cartridge

A pen is only as good as the cartridge that you use. That’s why they are working with Fisher Space Pens*. The PR4 refill is a pressurized cartridge with a tungsten carbide tip. It lasts three times longer than alternatives and provides an unparalleled smoothness with every pen stroke.

Engineering

The metal designs are custom made from start to finish and made in the UK using trusted local suppliers. A solid block of stainless steel or brass is CNC machined to produce incredibly precise parts. Each one is individually inspected and tested to ensure it will withstand the test of time. Their manufacturing partner make predominantly aerospace components and have BS EN AS 9100 accreditation.

Specification

The pen is designed to be as compact as possible to fit discreetly into a bag or pocket, but long enough to sit comfortably in the crook of your hand while writing.

– Diameter: Ø10mm / 3/8 Inch
– Height: 117.5mm / 4.63 Inch

Finish

Machined finish to a surface roughness of 0.4 Ra (μm) with a 0.5mm perpendicular diamond knurl around the circumference.

Say hello to the Lamborghini Sián, the Italian company’s first ever hybrid sportscar

Unveiled at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, the new Lamborghini Siánn explores a whole slew of fresh possibilities for the company. After the conceptual Terzo Millennio, the Sián is the first car from the Italian automotive company to venture into a hybrid drive, relying on a V12 engine as well as a unique 48 volt e-motor, delivering 34 hp to provide immediate response and an uplifted performance. The e-motor also helps the car perform low-speed maneuvers such as reversing and parking the car. The new, ground-breaking hybrid system, which incorporates the low-voltage e-motor into the gearbox, also delivers acceleration in low gears, making the Sián the fastest-accelerating Lamborghini ever made, achieving 0-100 km/h in less than 2.8 seconds.

“The Lamborghini Sián represents the first step in Lamborghini’s route to electrification, and expedites our next-generation V12 engine. Its Sián moniker, meaning ‘flash or lightning’ in Bolognese dialect, denotes the first electrification of a Lamborghini production car and confirms our strong connection to the territory in which we operate. With the Sián, Automobili Lamborghini demonstrates its dynastic strength as a legendary super sports car brand for the future”, says Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.

Its remarkable engineering aside, the Sián presents a more concrete new direction for Lamborghini, which wants to adopt the electrification of its line of super-automobiles. Its incredibly edgy, aggressive design is highly indicative of its name, which translates to ‘flash of lightning’, while a few rather noticeable changes to the car’s design help set it apart from the rest of Lamborghini’s speed-demons. Unlike Lamborghinis of the past, the Sián doesn’t have the massive hexagonal air-vents under its headlights. Sián’s design switches things up, blending headlight and air-inlet in a design that truly captivates. Lamborghini’s iconic sideways ‘Y’ taillights are replaced with a series of three illuminating hexagons on the back, while the sideways ‘Y’ make their debut on the front of the Sián, as a pair of headlights. It’s a remarkable switch of design details, that in a lot of ways shows how the company is ‘switching things up’ with its cars too. Lastly, Sián’s paint-job is a stark deviation from Lamborghini’s signature warm hues like their yellow and orange shades. The satinesque olive green truly sets the Sián apart, and is probably the company’s way of differentiating between their incredibly powerful fuel-driven sportscars, and the Sián, which marks a beginning for the Italian company’s exciting journey into electric drives! The Lamborghini Sián is expected to launch in 2020.
