Today's Urban Design Observation: West Broadway Street Furniture

Spotted on SoHo’s once-glitzy West Broadway, which is now clearly in decline: Someone wanted a bench, but damn sure didn’t want to pay for a bench.

All materials were, I assume, looted from a nearby construction site.

Holiday Gift Guides 2017: Kids + Pets

The cliche is true; good things do come in small packages. While we hate to lump them together—but also find it funny—some of our favorite small ones happen to fall in the children and pets categories. Both offer unconditional love, plenty of laughs……

The World’s First Self-cleaning Sunglasses

sacuba_00

Whether you’re at the beach playing volleyball or fishing on the lake, nothing will disturb what you’re doing faster than a smudge on your sunglasses! While you’re first reaction might be to grab your shirt and wipe them clean, it’s not always the best solution because you can easily press in micro-particles which can scratch your lenses over time. That’s where the Sacuba glasses come in handy.

Everything you need to clean the lens is integrated into the frame! If debris or liquid get on your glasses, simply remove them and push the lenses through the frame. It features built-in microfiber cleaning pads that safely wipe smudges, oil and other spots away! As sporty as they are functional, you’d never know from looking that there’s a built-in cleaning system!

Stunning Music-Inspired Artworks and Mirrors

A Dreamful Odyssey In Indonesia

Can You Spot the Leopard Hiding in This Photo?

Making the internet rounds is this incredible shot by nature photographer Inger Vandyke:

The three horned animals are called Bharal or “blue sheep,” a goatlike animal found in Ladakh, India. They’re hard enough to see, blending into the environment as they do; but can you also see the snow leopard that’s stalking them in the photo above?

If you can’t see the leopard, here’s a hint as to what that animal looks like:

If you still can’t see it, try the higher-resolution photo here.

Vandyke continued to shoot as the leopard eventually revealed itself and gave chase:

No word as to whether the leopard got to eat, but there’s an interview with Vandyke on the experience here.

Antarctica's Extinct Forests

From November 2016 to January 2017 (in other words, summer in Antarctica) Erik Gulbranson and John Isbell found 13 fossil fragments from trees dating back more than 260 million years. This more than hints at the continent’s green past—with a landscape……

A Photographic Trip Across Germany
