“(translated) It is a 4K video shot with real-time close-up taken at the opening moment of 2 minutes. You can see the Prominence, which changes shape every time you turn around two half turns around the sun. RST-150H mount is not only rotated by image processing, but also tracking the sun and rotating the sun about two and a half turns at the same time. This feature was successfully used in the prototype mount of the RST-150H at the time of the Japanese solar eclipse in 2016, but it was thick cloudy and could not disclose the image. The real-time video of the full-disk is a little bit monotonous, but it is a big advantage that the video does not seem to feel boring at all in those two minutes.”..(Read…)

OTOTO remains one of our favorite design-embracing companies. They have a way of linking products and experiences in a way that’s innocent and delightful, creating products that tell stories and become favorites even before being bought!
Take for instance the Space Masher, a rocket turned potato masher that makes the mashed potatoes look like clouds of smoke a space rocket would leave behind (I’m very tempted to make a Spud-nik reference from Friends). The Masher wonderfully fulfills visual as well as functional requirements, becoming a product that isn’t just a novelty… It’s comfortable to use too! What a wonderful way to get kids to help in the kitchen, I say!

Ah, the humble bi-fold wallet. We love them. They store all your belongings in a double layered schematic; and if made well, they still manage to stay slim. They’re even the first image you think of when you say the word ‘wallet’.
The Wally Agent by Distil Union takes the traditional idea of a bi-fold and tweaks it just a little bit, so it looks and feels like a bi-fold wallet, but is in fact a combination of good design and great craftsmanship. Made from hand-rolled full grain leather, the wallet manages to stay eye-defyingly slim while holding up to 30 bills along with 12 cards that can be easily accessed via the Wally’s Pull-Tab pockets that will have you slinging cards faster than a cowboy slings guns (with some practice, of course).
The Wally Agent was size-calibrated to fit different-sized notes from a variety of countries across all continents. When closed, the wallet measures just a mere 7mm (0.3 inches) in thickness, and comes fully NFC compatible, allowing you to tap your cards at payment portals without even taking them out of your wallet. You can even get your hands on an RFID protected version of the Wally Agent too!

I just came across this bizarre story from over ten years ago. A New Jersey mother had amassed 1,000 cans of Silly String and was trying to ship them to her son, who was serving in Iraq at the time.
U.S. soldiers from both the Army and the Marines were doing house sweeps in Ramadi. The insurgents were killing them with booby traps left behind in the houses. A favored technique of the insurgents was to rig tripwires up to explosives. The tripwires were so thin that they were impossible to see.
Some clever U.S. Marine, who had somehow gotten his hands on a can of Silly String, came up with the idea of spraying it into a room or doorway that they were entering. Silly String can shoot up to about 12 feet, and the foam is light enough that it will hang on suspended tripwires without activating the explosives it’s attached to. It then provides a clear visual indication, even in low light, of where not to step.
Army Spc. Todd Shriver learned the trick from a Marine unit, told his mother about it in a phone call, and she then arranged to have the decidedly not-standard-kit shipped over to her son’s unit.
