You know how when Tony Stark steps into the exoskeleton suit, he becomes Iron Man? Think of the Boost as pretty much the same sort of suit for your Macbook.
Apple’s products continue to discard features in the name of sleekness and innovation. The MacBook has seen a similar fate. With just one USB type C port on the entire machine (and no glowing logo), the new MacBook feels sleek, but also weak. Boost, like its name says, is a razor thin case that gives the Macbook a much needed adrenaline shot, making it powerful in ways beyond Apple’s imagination. The case comes in two halves that cover the upper and lower parts of the MacBook. The upper half of the case comes in a decorative decal that not just ups your mac’s style quotient, it also prevents your laptop’s delicate Aluminum body from scratching or denting.
The lower half of the case however, steals the show. This absolute tech marvel turns your MacBook into nothing short of a performance laptop. With six different ports/readers and not one, but TWO 3300 mAh battery cleverly hidden inside its sleek design, the Boost has the body of a laptop case, but the personality of a multi-port dongle and a power bank.
At lesser than an inch in thickness, the lower half of the Boost case manages to include two USB ports (2.0 and 3.0), a USB type C port, a Mini HDMI port (for external screens or projectors), and two card readers (one for MicroSD and one for regular SD). It even packs 6600 mAh of battery power, capable of juicing your MacBook up to 62%, or even acting as a power bank for your phone/tablet. There’s even a power indicator on the case, that’ll tell you how much battery your Boost case has.
Where Apple fails, dongles take over. But where dongles fall short, you have the Booster. Most dongles just connect to the Type C port, and therefore stand the risk of breaking or damaging, because they’re holding onto the laptop at just one pivotal point. The Boost does it differently by marrying dongle and case, to create something that holds your laptop from all sides, not just protecting it, but empowering it too… while keeping your MacBook incredibly thin. Shut the haters and the naysayers up with the Boost laptop power-case! Now available with a crystal clear upper cover too!

The interior and exterior revamp of Cari de Madame by Taipei Base Design Center is as simplistic as this curry cafe’s menu! The project originally took inspiration from the Chinese word for “diner” … “can-ting”. “Can” references the meal, which is in front of “ting”, the eating place. This informed the open layout and high visibility between chef’s quarters and customer.
Contrasting design details in yellow and black define the food preparation area and dining area with room for around 30. A clever addition (notice above the bar) are built-in holders for indicator cards that visitors can hand over to indicate their food choices. It’s even simple to order!
The competition forms part of the London furniture retailer’s Design Icons Month – a celebration of authentic design icons, taking place throughout March.
The campaign was launched following the recent change in UK law, which now protects designs for 70 years after the death of the author. To mark the occasion, Aram Store has partnered with nine of the world’s most prestigious furniture brands.
The competition’s top prize is the LC2 lounge chair, designed by Le Corbusier with regular collaborators Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand in 1928.
The chair, which features a chromed tubular steel frame and green fabric, is manufactured by Italian brand Cassina. It retails at £3,678.
The Saarinen side table by Modernist architect Eero Saarinen is the second prize. Designed for American furniture brand Knoll in 1957, it has an Arabescato marble top and a white metal base.
A third winner will receive a Lampadina table lamp, which was designed by Italian designer Achille Castiglioni for Flos in 1972. It comes with an orange and grey metal base.
Founded by designer Zeev Aram, Aram Store presents a range of contemporary furniture, lighting and rugs over the four floors of its Covent Garden showroom.
Aram also holds the worldwide head licence for Eileen Gray designs.
The Design Icons Month competition products will be on show at the store, which is located at 110 Drury Lane, throughout March 2017.
The Aram Gallery, an independently curated space on the third floor of the Aram building, is also hosting an exhibition called No Randomness. Here, designer Oscar Lhermitte shows his collection of industrial objects with a hidden rationale.
This exhibition runs from 3 March to 1 April 2017. The private view will take place from 6 until 9pm on 2 March, coinciding with the Design Icons Month reception.

Competition closes on 31 March and is only open to UK residents. Winners will be selected at random and notified by email. Their names will be published at the top of this page. Delivery of prizes will be arranged by Aram Store.
The right water temperature is largely subjective depending on the individual, but it’s imperative that parents get it just right when it comes time to give baby a bath. The Tubcare thermometer takes the guesswork out of baby’s bathtime temperature by displaying not only the exact degree, but also indicating whether its too cold, hot or just right with colored LED indicators. Red means the temperature is too high, blue means it’s too cold, and green means it’s good to go! Waterproof and durable, little ones will also love to play with it in the water!
Designer: Gary Chang
“There are forty little concave holes on the surface for gripping purpose,” says Gary.
“The temperature induction only takes seconds to send the temperature to the top of the screen.”
