What a Can-Am Spyder Shoulda Been

spyder_00

The Can-Am Spyder trike gets a lot of eye rolls from motorcyclists like myself for one simple reason: it combines all the downsides of riding a motorcycle with all the downsides of driving a car! Us gearheads are willing to expose ourselves to the elements and risk not having a protective shell because we can zip past traffic and lay down through twisty roads. The Can-Am… well, it can’t.

However… designer John Mark Vicente’s Can-Am Super Spyder concept addresses the regular Spyder’s major setback of being too wide to turn sharply or navigate through traffic. The Super Spyder’s front wheel sections are able to extend and retract, adapting its overall stance to accommodate varying driving conditions. Ready to lane split? With the easy press of a button riders can assume a slimmer position to squeeze through tight car corridors. Need better traction? Extend the wheels out for greater grip!

Taking the Dust out of Industrial!

solar_dusting_fence_1

My design college was right beside a large cement warehouse. I’d usually keep my hostel windows shut because even though the warehouse was a kilometer away, the dust would carry itself to the campus, through the windows, and form a coating over all my things. I imagine construction sites are much worse… making it quite dangerous for the people working there (studies show inhaling too much dust can increase changes of lung ailments including cancer). The Solar Dusting Fence isn’t just a collection of random words. It replaces the tarp scaffolding you see on buildings under construction. This new tarp is lined with flexible solar panels that connect themselves to a motor. The solar panels are mounted on hollow pipes with perforations on either side. These pipes suck in dust particles from the work-site as well as the outside, making sure you’re inhaling air that’s relatively cleaner. Neat, no? I’m also reminded of the artist in Beijing who used a vacuum cleaner to suck in atmospheric dust to make a brick. Imagine if this system allowed construction sites to make their own bricks too! Wouldn’t that just be awesome?!

Infant-astic Incubator

neobirth_incubator_1

I imagine having a baby born prematurely can be a very perplexing thing. While the child stays under medical care for large portions of time, it only bodes well for the child to spend a good amount of time with its parents. The Neobirth incubator not only provides a medically safe haven for the infant, its design also allows the child and parent to interact (even though remotely) and spend quality time together. The Incubator comes mounted on a hydraulic piston that allows the incubation chamber to be lowered or raised so that mom, dad, and baby are on the same level.

The Neobirth obviously is a medical device first, and makes arrangements for all procedures and peripherals. The overhead lamp not only can be used as an observation light, but as a phototherapy lamp too (used to prevent Jaundice in newborns). A swiveling Touchscreen LCD display hovers over the incubation chamber displaying relevant information. The Incubation chamber also makes drawer space for storing medical instruments or documents. The entire Incubator unit is also mounted on caster wheels, so the baby can be moved from one location to another, cradle and all!

Scissors That Differ

cizorz_01

Cizorz breaks the archetypical perception of traditional-type scissors with an entirely new and innovative aesthetic and storing solution! When compressed, its as slim as a butter knife and can easily be placed in an upright holder that follows its cylindrical form. It’s also safer to store and grab when the scissors are needed. Composed of a hardened steel blade, a structural core and a leaf spring it functions in the same familiar way as conventional scissors. The body is wrapped in a non-slip silicon finish, wood, or bamboo depending on the users unique taste.

Cizorz is a 2015 Red Dot Award Winner.

3 Peas in a Charge

arrangement_pea_01

As useful as multi-tap power extensions might be, they will inevitably leave your wires a mess and your aesthetic a total wreck! The Arrangement PEA offers one simple solution for tidying up cables directly on the unit.

While the base is made from hard plastic, the cap covers are made with a malleable silicon material that can be easily flipped and inverted. To use the Arrangement PEA, simply flip the cover upwards to expose a spool – then, wind the wire around the spool before flipping the cover back into its original state. The wires will be hidden and kept clear of the surrounding area!

Arrangement PEA is a 2015 Red Dot Award winner.

Beautiful Black and White Pictures of Iceland

Flowing Paper Collages Panels

Very Trippy Fashion Shooting

Black and White Portraits of Olympic Athletes Taken with a Photographic Chamber
