Shaken, Not Stirred: Enkaja by Tatabi Studio

Tatabi-Enkaja-stacked.jpg

Devastation notwithstanding, Hurricane Sandy has been occasion for an uncanny respite from the otherwise unstoppable hustle and bustle of the city that Core calls home… and more than one of my friends has confessed to not-so-secretly enjoying the compulsory staycation. (Meanwhile, I’ve been diligently typing away at my kitchen table thanks to mostly-reliable broadband.) In fact, I couldn’t help but think of one friend’s remark, “I feel like I’m becoming a lush”—after three days off, no less—when Tatabi Studio’s Enkaja cocktail mixer turned up in the inbox.

Don’t be fooled by the fact that it looks like an inkwell or shampoo bottle (maybe it has to do with the “200 mL” on the label): the Enkaja is expressly designed to wet your whistle as well as your local mustachioed barkeep, even if you think Angostura refers to a quasi-atheistic belief system. In fact, especially if you don’t know the first thing about mixology: the mix-and-match concept is essentially ‘Drinks for Dummies,’ with pre-measured bottles… something like a Keurig approach to a cocktail shaker—plug-and-play inebriation instead of caffeination.

While the product itself is certainly thoughtfully-designed, the visual identity—another of Tatabi’s many services—is perhaps even more noteworthy.

Sponsor Spotlight: Orphan Socks

Orphansocks

{1. conjugates Hockenheimer magazin  2.Bear face mirror  3. Snug Cloud  4.Plateau pol  5.Snake wardrobe}

Located in Amsterdam, Orphan Socks has a great concept bringing you one of a kind pieces. If you take a look at their website you will see that they cover almost every part of your home. From the children's room to the kitchen. I've chosen my five favorite items from each room. What do you think?

I've never seen anything like the 'Snake Wardrobe', which basically allows you to hang your clothes outside your wardrobe for a quick grab. Now there's a lot you can do with this, even use it in your laundry room for those air dry delicates.

I would also like to to point out the 'Designers' section on the website. Its always great to see and read a little about the designers behind these products. What a great team!

EXTL pendant lights by David Irwin for Deadgood

British designer David Irwin has created pentagonal pendant lights that are bound together by silicon bands for design company Deadgood.

EXTL Lighting by David Irwin for Deadgood

Five identical profiles made from three-millimetre-thick aluminium are held together by three black silicon bands, one at the top and two at the bottom.

EXTL Lighting by David Irwin for Deadgood

All the profiles for one EXTL Light can be cut from the same bar of extruded aluminium, dissected at angles so the two styles can be made from one length.

“This highly engineered solution effectively demonstrates both the efficiency and the precision of this time-honoured industrial process,” says Deadgood.

The lights are available in two slightly different styles, one of which has a wider opening at the base than the other. The surface of the aluminium is finished in either a matt black, gold or silver anodised metal coating.

Deadgood launched the product at 100% Design in London last month.

Stories we’ve previously featured about Deadgood include a seating collection covered in textile offcuts and a lighting range made from wire.

We’ve recently written about an adjustable lamp with a magnetic concrete base and a collection of lamps with empty baskets for bases that can be filled with various heavy objects. See all our stories about lamps.

unique finds, designs and carries a good mixture of products. You can take a look at what they have here on their website.

PS. MARJON AND I HAVE A WHOLE CITY GUIDE ABOUT SINGAPORE AVAILABLE FOR YOU WHO WOULD LIKE TO PUBLISH IT IN A MAGAZINE OR ONLINE! – just email us
