New Atlantic Yards Architectural Renderings Unveiled

More goings-ons with the ever-changing Atlantic Yards project, and surely more new material for Norman Oder‘s book about the development. New architectural renderings have just been released and they’ve been stripped down a touch since the original plans were unveiled back in early-September of last year. No more does the development include an office tower, with the NY Times reporting that the project’s developer, Bruce Ratner, saying that “there is little demand for office space today, and there may not be for years to come.” However, beyond the new New Jersey Nets stadium at the heart of the Yards, Barclays Center, it sounds like Ratner’s plans still include building residential buildings, construction starting as soon as eight months from now, which, given the still-gloomy economy, seems just as risky as building office space. Other newness in the plans include updated landscaping, green roofs, a new opening in the Barclays Center’s roof, and miscellaneous bits and pieces like benches and new video screens. SHoP Architects, who had been brought in shortly after Frank Gehry was kicked off the project and Elerbe Becket (now owned by Aecom Technology) was picked as his replacement, looks to be handling all of these updates to the development.

Here’s some more from Jasper Morrison Ltd.

Rado, the Swiss watchmaker with a pioneering spirit became known for The ‘DiaStar’ in 1962, the first watch to be made from scratchproof hard metals. Not content with the existing materials utilized by the watch-making industry of the early ‘60s Rado’s design team begun developing and producing new, harder metals, high-tech ceramics and sapphire crystal. The brand’s material advancements were developed alongside its clear-lined, modern and pure sense of design aesthetics to achieve a watch that could be considered both a modern piece of jewelry as well as a functional timepiece. Jasper Morrison is the first designer the brand approached in search of his creative input.

The collaboration started when Morrison was asked to reinterpret Rado’s 1990s icon, the Ceramica; followed by a new typology of packaging for the brand’s existing timepieces. In 2009 Rado launched the r5.5, an entirely new collection of high-tech ceramics wristwatches designed by Jasper Morrison. Characterized by its square silhouette with curved edges, the radius of which gives the collection its name, the case fuses into the bracelet and the links gradually reduce so that it appears to be moulding naturally around the wrist. The launch of the new r5.5 platinum chronograph, is an interesting move for Rado who have up to now concentrated their production on the black ceramic finish. For Jasper Morrison it represents a refinement of the original design, while the combination of the grey metallic face and yellow chronograph counters results in the most sporty r5.5 to date.

Bag Of The Week – Gap Suede Tote

imageYes, Summer is on its way out and we’re clearing out our shorts and tees for scarves and jackets. You may be ready to toss aside those summer beach totes in lighter colors for heavier bags made of leather, but wait! Mix your darker grays and neutrals with a burst of sunshine throughout the year. This suede bag by Gap redesigns the tote and makes it great for Fall. I love the bright yellow-orange color because it pairs greatly with the colors of Autumn. Since this bag is made of suede material it’ll look great with boots (especially brown ones!) and sexy coats. By combining light colors with a heavier fabric, Gap has created the perfect Fall accessory. If you’re a student, take this baby with you on campus and lug around all your books easily and in style. Otherwise, just grab everything you need for the day and add a little sunshine to your life, whether Mother Nature provides it or not!

Congratulations 101 Woonideeën

1012

101 Woonideeën is celebrating it's 10 year anniversary…Congratulations! Actually, the history of 101 Woonideeën goes much further back…in September 1957 the first issue of DIY, a monthly magazine, was born. What I truly love about 101 Woonideeën is not only the fact that they have the best DIY tutorials they also were and are the first who truly reach(ed) out to the Bloggers community. For instance during this weeks Living Fair in Amsterdam 101 Woonideeën invited some of the most creative bloggers from the Netherlands to join them in their home (stand) to show their craftiness and let visitors be able to talk to the bloggers.

…and when I say great DIY tutorials I mean this tutorial for a stacking bench and other simple furniture. Marjan Verboeket from studio papas is the designer and creator of the tutorial, which you can find right here. and this is the link for the English translation.
