Paper vases lets you play around with shapes, colors, patterns

Vases usually take a back seat to the flowers and plants that they house since the main attraction are the flora. Usually they are just functional or if they do have designs, they’re not always that eye-catching and can sometimes be minimalist. But who says you can’t have attractive flowers and also beautiful vases with various colors and patterns?

Designer: Super Nature Design

The Dot Dot Dot Paper Vase is one kind of vase that will catch your attention even before you put flowers or plants in them. From its name of course you can deduct that they are made from paper but it’s not just any ordinary paper but ones that have different colors, patterns, and shapes. It can spark creativity in the “viewer” and can also serve as an interactive canvas together with what you’ll put in it.

Since the material is paper, you will also be able to fold, shape, and decorate it in any way you want. You can use it to either complement the flora that you’ll put in it or provide a startling contrast to add to the visual smorgasbord. Minimalists will probably not be that fond of it because of the vibrant colors and the textured patterns.

The paper vases have different colorways like green, red, violet, yellow, and pink, but always with the white color creating patterns. There are also different shapes like circles, spirals, half moons, and lines. They can add an artful feel to your space aside from serving its function as a vessel.

Nikon Z fc HERALBONY limited edition cameras radiate self-expression with artful designs

Thanks to the popularity of smartphone cameras, photography is no longer something limited to seasoned veterans, a term that’s often applied to older people. The younger generation has been captivated by the joys of preserving fleeting memories and sharing them with friends, whether it’s snapping up Instagram photos or using a dedicated camera for more professional-looking shots. That said, the majority of these DSLRs and mirrorless cameras still seem to be designed for those veterans who might have less colorful tastes when it comes to their equipment. It’s a bit ironic that such a tool for capturing expressions would itself lack the kind of self-expression that younger photographers thirst for, which is why Nikon is launching a limited edition Z fc camera series dressed up in a few of HERALBONY’s vibrant artwork.

Designer: Nikon x HERALBONY

Granted, there are quite a few cameras designed to capture the attention and patronage of younger customers, GenZ or otherwise. Most of these, however, are either of the Polaroid-style instant camera variety or the point-and-click cameras that have been made redundant by smartphones. Professional-level cameras, in contrast, come in the usual shades of black and gray and pretty much nothing else. They look and feel premium, mind you, but they might not have the visual impact some users might want.

That’s what makes the Nikon Z fc mirrorless camera a bit of an outlier because it actually has different color options that don’t sacrifice that premium leatherette material in the process. Admittedly, it’s not a full customization feature, but it’s the closest you’d get in this product category. With this collaboration with HERALBONY, however, there are even more exterior options, ones that convey the liveliness of youth and freedom of expression.

[Yurinoyoakeri] Masaharu Honda

[Cone Flower] Masahiro Fukui

[Joyful Time] Teppei Kasahara

[Samba] Momoko Eguchi

These four pieces come from HERALBONY’s collection of more than 2,000+ artwork, each crafted by artists with neurodiversity and disabilities. The brand’s mission to “Radiate Your Color” seems like a perfect match to Nikon cameras’ ability to capture those colors through photos and videos. With this unique Nikon Z fc edition, cameras are no longer just tools for capturing expressions and moments but become vehicles of expression as well, at least through artful camera exteriors that best capture your own aesthetic inclinations.

The four artful pieces add to the existing eight color options for the Nikon Z fc, creating a wider palette of cameras to choose from. Unfortunately, the HERALBONY cameras will be available for only a limited time and in limited quantities, with details of their availability dependent on the region. And in case you’re wondering, Nikon isn’t selling these Premium Exteriors on their own so you can’t just buy a “skin” to warp around your existing Nikon Z fc either.

Measured Architecture designs Shor House to be a "test bed of recycling"

Shor House by Measured Architecture

Salvaged lumber and Corten steel were used to create a waterfront house on a British Columbian island that belongs to the founder of Measured Architecture and was designed to explore a “zero-take approach” to design and construction.

The project, called Shor House, is located on Mayne Island, which is part of the Southern Gulf Islands in western Canada. The home is nestled into a sloped site overlooking the Navy Channel.

Measured Architecture has designed a British Columbian waterfront house

Designed by Vancouver-based Measured Architecture, the house belongs to firm founder Clinton Cuddington, who often works remotely from the house, in addition to spending holidays here.

The property features a main dwelling and two small buildings — one is a guesthouse, and the other is a ceramic and jewellery studio for Cuddington’s wife, Monica.

Shor House was constructed from salvaged lumber and Corten steel

Much of the lumber from the project came from a house and barn that formally sat on the site and were carefully disassembled, so their parts could be reused.

The original foundation was also preserved, as was a retaining wall made of dry-stacked stone. The wall was reconditioned by master stonemason Tamotsu Tongu, who also advised on the landscape design.

All of the new structures share a design vocabulary that draws upon the reuse of materials and the notion of alchemy – the “transmutation of a base material into something more valuable”.

“This project is a test bed of recycling – a zero-take approach,” said Cuddington.

The design was also influenced by artist Donald Judd’s Marfa compound in Texas, which features repurposed military buildings, minimalist rooms and practical furniture.

Rectangular in plan, the main house contains 3,500 square feet (325 square metres), spread across two levels and a basement.

The massing is described as a “deflected salt box,” with the gabled end facing the water. A portion of the roof is covered with solar panels.

The main house is rectangular in plan, spread across two levels and a basement

While much of the house is made of wood, exterior walls are clad in Corten steel plates, a material chosen for multiple reasons, including its limited need for maintenance and its ability to be recycled.

“Steel has got a bad rap,” said Cuddington. “It is eminently recyclable and, ultimately, capable of advancing its considerable embodied energy without the costs of mining and full smelting again.

Interior finishes include salvaged wood, concrete, local marble and Venetian plaster

Within the home, one finds communal areas on the ground level and sleeping areas up above. The basement holds a recreation room and two bedrooms.

Large stretches of glass provide immersive views of the landscape.

Interior finishes include salvaged wood, concrete, local marble and Venetian plaster. The team opted to not use drywall, as it tends to end up in landfills.

Special features include a table designed by Cuddington and a cylindrical fireplace made of reclaimed steel.

Cuddington notes that the team spent years scouting for materials and working with deconstruction experts.

“There was a whole set of site assets that we needed to harvest and use – a patchwork quilt that we threaded back together,” he said.

Measured Architecture – a practitioner of what it calls “situational modernism” – has completed a number of houses in Vancouver and beyond, including a family residence clad in wood-textured concrete and a house with cypress cladding, a green roof and a living wall.

Lalalli Senna designs Brazil's tallest skyscraper to be "celestial"

Senna Tower

Brazilian artist Lalalli Senna has designed the concept for Senna Tower, a 500-metre-tall supertall skyscraper in Brazil set to be the nation’s tallest and “tallest residential tower in the world”, according to its developer.

The Senna Tower is planned for Balneário Camboriú, a city in Brazil’s Santa Catarina state that is known for its skyscraper-lined coastal skyline.

Senna Tower
Brazil developer FG Empreendimentos has unveiled renderings of Senna Tower

Renderings show a slim, glass-clad tower. At its base, a section of the facade slips forward to create a series of terraces that are covered in pools and landscaping.

A race track will encircle the podium, which will be part of an “immersive space” dedicated to Brazilian racing driver Ayrton Senna, who died at the age of 34 as a result of a driving accident.

Senna Tower
The tower is set to be “world’s tallest residential building” if completed

The project is a joint venture between developer, construction and engineering firm FG Empreendimentos and the Senna Brand, the lifestyle brand of the late driver.

It was designed by Ayrton Senna’s niece and artist Lalalli Senna to reflect his “heroic journey”, with the horizontal axis representative of the “material” and the vertical, “the celestial and ideal.”

Bands of lights will run up the facade and around the base. At the top of the tower, the lights surrounding the crown are shown to project upwards.

Senna Tower
The tower’s base contains amenities and a race track

“The tower’s architectural form was designed to symbolise this heroic journey of overcoming our ideals and the manifestation of our profound potential,” said Lalalli Senna.

“The hero is composed of flesh and bone and thus begins from the material axis. However, they seek qualities that belong to the realm of ideals, such as strength, skill, honour, and truth. The hero embarks on a journey towards what belongs to the celestial domain, striving to reflect these non-material aspects.”

“Eventually, the hero sheds their mortal shell and becomes pure light to complete their journey, symbolised in the crowning of Senna Tower.”

At 500 metres tall, Senna Tower will contain 228 residential units, including 18 “mansions”, 204 apartments, four duplex penthouses, and two “two mega triplex penthouses” spanning 903 square metres.

Amenities will be distributed over six floors throughout the building, and a 6,000 square metre rooftop will also contain “leisure space”.

Senna Tower
The project is a joint venture with the lifestyle brand of late racing driver Ayrton Senna

According to the developer, the project will pursue LEED Platinum certification, making it the “first supertall residential building” to achieve the feat if awarded and it will also be the first building in Latin America to use a Tuned Mass Damper (TMD), which reduces vibrations in tall and slender buildings.

It has received approval from the city hall of Balneário Camboriú and local planning bodies Estudo de Impacto de Vizinhança (EIV) and Licença de Implantação Ambiental(LAI).

Brazilian engineer Stéphane Domeneghini was cited by the developer as a technical lead for the project. She is executive director at FG Talls, the developer’s arm responsible for producing high-rise buildings.

Construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2025.

If completed, it will be the tallest residential skyscraper in the world. The project joins a Dubai skyscraper vying for the same title, set to be 557 metres tall.

“This is our commitment: to transform an extraordinary intangible concept into something real and timeless, leaving a legacy beyond our generation, perpetuating the message for the future,” said FG Empreendimentos president Jean Graciola.

“To achieve this, we are involving the world’s top names in architecture and engineering, ensuring excellence in a structure over 500 meters tall, which will be the tallest residential building in the world.”

Elsewhere in the world, a supertall skyscraper is planned for Oklahoma City, while recently SOM partnered with energy company Energy Vault to design four schematic sustainable energy storage systems to generate power for supertall buildings.

Extra UI for Your Computer: The Creator Micro

It would be fun to see what archeologists make of this object, if they dig one up in the future.

This Creator Micro, by Montreal-based tech company Work Louder, is designed for power users of Photoshop, Premiere, Figma, etc. It offers 12 keys and two analog dials that users can map functions onto, for one-button convenience. There are actually four “layers” that each button or dial can access, meaning you’ve actually got 48 different functions on tap.

It might seem like overkill, but the base holds a CNC-machined piece of aluminum that serves as a weight, to prevent it from sliding around on your desk.

You can purchase keycaps with icons on them, or opt for blank.

They also sell this Figma-specific set below, which comes with 30 keys labeled with Figma-specific tasks, and another 15 colored buttons, allowing you to mix and match.

The standard model runs $130, and the Figma jam is $160.

A Throwable Panoramic Thermal Camera and Two-Way Speaker

Such a creative solution: This grapefruit-sized object is a throwable panoramic camera. Called the Pit Viper 360, it was developed by a company called Bounce Imaging. It’s covered with six cameras and thermal imaging sensors, so it can provide infrared images.

It’s designed for the military and law enforcement, and the idea is that you toss it into a room (you can even throw it through a glass window, it’s ruggedized) and it sends a 360-degree image to your smartphone, allowing you to look around the room. It also serves as a two-way speaker, allowing you to chat with hostage takers.

Rather than toss it, you can also screw it onto the end of a pole, tie it to a rope (handy if you need to recover it) or adhere it to surfaces as a fast-mounting security cam. The demo video shows all kinds of nifty applications:

The company has been creating lighting for three decades

“The distinct concentric shell structure of this new design is a representation of a visual narrative of Slamp’s 30 years, through the three materials that have marked its evolutionary milestones,” said Slamp.

“The Fiordlys range is made of three materials. Firstly, Opaflex, which represents the origins of the brand. Secondly, Lentiflex, introduced about 15 years ago, which has a ribbed texture capable of creating fluid and unexpected iridescent effects. Finally, in the outermost surface, a texture of cold applied metallic foil that creates poetic effects of light and shadow.”

EDITOR’S QUOTE:

The Apple Watch Series 10 is more like a lifestyle companion than just a piece of tech, offering style, functionality, and peace of mind for those who prioritize their health.

Apple’s latest wearable, the Apple Watch Series 10, makes meaningful advancements, especially in health tracking. With FDA-approved sleep apnea detection, Apple has expanded the watch’s role from a daytime fitness companion to a 24/7 health monitor. After wearing the Series 10 for a few days, I’ve noticed how seamlessly it fits into all aspects of my life—from workouts to sleep. Let’s dive into the details.

Designer: Apple

Design That Catches the Eye

The first thing that immediately stood out about the Series 10 is its sleek design. The watch seemed to mold perfectly around my wrist, like a missing piece of a puzzle that fits seamlessly into place on a canvas. Apple’s attention to detail is evident, especially in how they’ve managed to slim the watch down to just 9.7mm, making it the thinnest Apple Watch yet. This reduction in thickness doesn’t just look good on paper; you feel the difference instantly. The Series 10 is almost weightless on your wrist, ideal for day and night wear.

The aluminum model is about 10% lighter, and if you opt for the titanium version, it’s nearly 20% lighter than the stainless steel models. The 1mm difference in thickness between the Series 9 and Series 10 may seem minimal, but it feels significant when worn. The slimmer profile, particularly with the 46mm model, makes it easier to wear for extended periods without any bulkiness. The watch never felt intrusive, whether I was working out, typing at my desk, or relaxing.

Apple Watch Titanium (Natural)

I had the chance to test both the Jet Black aluminum and Natural titanium models. The Jet Black is sleek and modern, offering a bold yet understated look. The Natural titanium, with its polished finish mimicking stainless steel, adds a premium touch. Both finishes provide something different, depending on your style.

Apple Watch Series 10 (Jet black)

Apple also offers aluminum models in Rose Gold and Silver, and the titanium versions come in Slate and Gold, catering to various personal preferences. Whether you want something striking or classic, there’s a finish to match your personality.

Display: Bigger, Brighter, and Easier to Love

The Series 10 boasts the largest and brightest display Apple has ever made, even surpassing the Apple Watch Ultra 2. The wide-angle OLED display curves seamlessly into the edges, giving it a sleek, modern look. The display is 40% brighter when viewed at an angle, making reading notifications in direct sunlight easy and hassle-free.

Apple Watch Ultra 2 vs. Apple Watch Series 10 (Titanium) vs. Apple Watch Series 10 (Aluminum)

I’ve worn the Apple Watch Ultra for its flat display and rugged feel, but I must admit that the Series 10’s curved screen brings a level of elegance that’s hard to ignore. The Ultra’s flat display offers practicality, especially in terms of scratch resistance, as I’ve noticed my older curved models tend to pick up scratches more easily over time. The Ultra’s ruggedness and industrial look are great for outdoor activities or those seeking extra durability.

Apple Watch Ultra 2

However, the Series 10’s curves make it feel more refined and contemporary, elevating the overall design into something more than just a piece of tech—it feels like a stylish accessory. Whether you prefer the Ultra’s rugged protection or the Series 10’s elegant curves really depends on personal taste, but there’s no denying that the Series 10 fits seamlessly into more aspects of my day-to-day life.

Straps That Match Your Lifestyle and All-Day Comfort

Straps can make or break your comfort, and Apple has updated several designs to complement the Series 10’s lightweight and ergonomic build. I fell in love with the Solo Loop in green. Its flexible, buckle-free design offers a snug yet comfortable fit, making it ideal for workouts and sleep. The Milanese Loop and Link Bracelet have also been redesigned to match the polished titanium finishes, offering a sleek, all-metal look for those who want something more formal.

For a more active style, the Sport Loop is breathable and made with 45% recycled materials, perfect for intense exercise. Whether you prefer something functional, stylish, or both, Apple offers countless strap designs—from leather options to vibrant silicone bands—allowing the watch to adapt to any occasion seamlessly.

One of the biggest surprises with the Series 10 is just how comfortable it is. It’s so lightweight that I often forget I’m wearing it. The watch stays in place without feeling bulky or intrusive, whether I’m typing, running errands, or getting in a quick workout. The Series 10 really shines in its all-night wearability, thanks to Apple’s introduction of FDA-approved sleep apnea detection. Sleep apnea, which causes repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep, can lead to long-term health risks like heart disease. With the Series 10, you can monitor potential signs of this condition in a non-intrusive way, thanks to its lightweight design and seamless sleep tracking.

Health and Fitness Features Galore: More Than Just Fitness

Health and fitness have always been at the core of the Apple Watch, and Series 10 builds on this legacy with watchOS 11. The new Vitals App consolidates heart rate, respiratory rate, wrist temperature, and sleep tracking into one convenient interface. Having all these metrics in one place is incredibly useful for someone who enjoys keeping tabs on their health.

The FDA-approved sleep apnea detection is a key addition. It allows users to monitor their breathing patterns and get alerts if something seems off, providing peace of mind without intrusive sleep studies.

Fitness enthusiasts will also appreciate the new Training Load feature, which tracks the intensity of cardio workouts and provides an effort rating from 1 to 10. This real-time feedback ensures you’re pushing yourself just the right amount without overdoing it.

Another thoughtful addition is the ability to pause Activity Rings for up to 90 days. Sometimes life gets in the way, and whether you’re recovering from an injury or taking a much-needed break, this feature allows you to return to your routine without losing progress.

Sleep Apnea Onboarding Process: Clear and Straightforward

Setting up the sleep apnea detection feature is intuitive, especially if you’re familiar with the Health app. After updating to iOS 18, you can find the Breathing Disturbances section under Respiratory in the app. From there, the onboarding process guides you through a simple setup.

Apple explains how the feature works: It monitors temporary interruptions in breathing during sleep, which could be influenced by factors like body position or alcohol intake. Frequent disturbances over multiple nights, however, may indicate sleep apnea. After completing the setup, you can enable **Sleep Apnea Notifications.

The Series 10 tracks your sleep over time, and while it takes about 30 days to gather sufficient data for a proper assessment, this long-term tracking ensures accuracy. Detailed insights, including charts of breathing disturbances, are then available within the Health app, offering a comprehensive view of your overnight respiratory health.

This setup felt seamless, and I found myself relying on the watch as my go-to sleep tracker—especially since it’s nearly invisible on my wrist at night.

Performance That Keeps Pace with Your Life

The S10 chip under the hood delivers a fast and smooth experience. Whether I’m opening apps, navigating the watch, or tracking workouts, everything runs seamlessly without any lag.

Battery life has been solid, with Apple claiming up to 18 hours of use under normal conditions and up to 36 hours with Low Power Mode. I found that the watch easily lasts from morning to night with juice to spare, and the fast charging feature gets me back up to 80% in just 30 minutes. It’s perfect for a quick top-up before heading out.

Convenience Features That Make Life Easier

The Series 10 includes several convenience features that enhance everyday use. The Ultra Wideband chip effortlessly helps me find my misplaced iPhone, a feature I’ve already relied on more than once. Meanwhile, the Translate app in watchOS 11 has been a lifesaver during my travels, allowing me to get quick translations without pulling out my phone.

Taking calls on the go is also easier than ever. The built-in speaker and voice isolation technology ensure that calls come through clearly, even in noisy environments. It’s one of those features that you don’t realize you need until you have it—and then it becomes indispensable.

Sustainability: A Watch That’s Greener

Apple’s push for sustainability continues with the Series 10. The aluminum and titanium models, paired with select bands, are now carbon neutral. Apple also uses recycled materials like gold, rare earth elements, and aluminum in its construction. The packaging has been reduced by 30%, aligning with Apple’s goal to eliminate plastic packaging by 2025.

Is It Worth the Upgrade?

The Apple Watch Series 10 offers significant improvements, particularly in health tracking and overall comfort. With FDA-approved sleep apnea detection, a thinner and lighter form factor, and enhanced performance, it’s a strong upgrade for anyone who prioritizes health monitoring.

The new sleep apnea detection and enhanced health metrics make the Series 10 an ideal 24/7 companion for those who already sleep with their Apple Watch. If you’re already embedded in the Apple ecosystem and value these features, it’s an excellent choice.

However, if you’re content with a recent Apple Watch model and don’t see the need for advanced health tracking, the Series 10’s upgrades may not feel essential. Ultimately, it depends on your personal needs and whether these new features enhance your daily routine.

Ultimately, the Apple Watch Series 10 feels more like a lifestyle companion than just a piece of tech. Whether you’re an Apple loyalist or considering making the switch, this watch offers style, functionality, and peace of mind for those who prioritize their health.
