Touchscreen on a Macbook? Yes!!

The reason the iPad isn’t picking in sales is because it’s ultimately a mobility device and not a professional solution. The reason the Macbook Pro isn’t doing as well either is because while it’s a professional solution, it lacks two important aspects that the competition has beautifully capitalized on… A. Having a touchscreen, and B. Being a convertible machine. The iPad Pro also pales in comparison because ultimately it’s an iOS device, and not an OSX machine.

Now while Apple doesn’t have a reputation of listening to its consumers, most third party OEMs do. Take the AirBar for instance. This amazingly thin little beaut is capable of turning your MacBook screen into a touchscreen. It broadcasts invisible light-waves to detect movement, allowing virtually anything to become a stylus. Use anything from chopsticks to a paintbrush to even your fingers (with or without gloves) to touch, navigate, zoom, swipe, or even paint on your MacBook! All you got to do is plug the AirBar into a USB port and mount it on the bottom of your screen. The only drawback here is the lack of pressure sensitivity, since the AirBar only works in the X & Y axes.

A Smart Shaker for Dummies

shaker_00

I love to cook, but I’m not one of those skilled chefs who can eye their ingredients. Unfortunately, all that pre-measuring adds plenty more time and work to my preparation. Designed for novice cooks like me, that’s where the Smart Shaker comes in handy!

This innovative cooking tool take the guess work out of measuring salt, pepper, sugar or spices. Whether it’s just a pinch or a tablespoon, users can preselect the required measurement from a convenient touchscreen located on top. Once selected, they can easily dispense the perfect amount with just a push. You’ll get it right each time, save minutes, and have less to clean up!

A Bag to Carry your Life with You

Bags as a product may be utilitarian, but they are more about self expression than anything else. That’s probably why we feature so many different types of bags on Yanko Design. They’re storage, but they’re personal storage, which is why when you find the right bag that fits both your needs and your style, it’s such a great feeling.

We introduced a beautiful, modular bag only last month thinking it would be difficult to outshine, but here we are with something that pushes the boundaries of bag design a little further. The 48Hr Switch bag is just everything in one. Why choose modular when you can have a bag that shape-shifts to suit your needs? The 48Hr Switch allows you to switch between work, play and travel by putting a backpack, messenger-bag, and briefcase all in one. The idea is to provide 48 hours worth of storage, which means you’ve got dedicated space for your laptop, files, and clothes. If you’re a shutterbug, the 48Hr Switch makes itself incredibly lucrative by including divisions for your camera and lenses within the storage compartment too! If you ever feel like you’re struggling for space, the bag’s design can expand up to 70% extra to give you even more storage!

The 48Hr Switch is a winner on the design front too. It seamlessly transitions between backpack and briefcase with absolute ease. It does this by giving the bag a dual-face design. This means the bag can be used front-facing as a backpack, and when you flip it over, the back face is sideways oriented, allowing it to become a dapper messenger bag or briefcase! Its clever design allows you to add or remove straps to change its avatar on the outside, and does the same on the inside too, by providing a great amount of segregation as well as a partitioning system if you opt for it. The bag’s made from a combo of full grain leather and British cotton canvas to give it an aesthetic that beautifully combine retro as well as urban sensibilities.

Like we said, bags are about mirroring your character and about you making a personal statement. Which is why finding the right bag to suit your style as well as lifestyle is such a great feeling… and we here at Yanko know we can help you discover the perfect bag!

One Streamlined Semi

caspi_02

Smooth… giant… elegant… aggressive… those 4 words were the inspiration behind Shahin Aliyev’s personal vision for a future cargo carrier. Called the CASPI Truck, this cab-over tractor/trailer’s flowing, sleek form almost appears to be a single, seamless monocoque structure. This is in part thanks to aerodynamic features like turning vanes, roof fairing, aerodynamic mirrors and side panels that also contribute to saving fuel.

The world’s first flexible surfing helmet

surfety_helmet_1

I don’t think I’ve seen that many surfers wear helmets. Honestly, every sport comes with dangers and it’s just a good practice to keep yourself safe. Surfers for instance have a 75% chance of hurting their heads against the surfboard itself.

Designer Camille Morelle took it upon herself to design a helmet for surfers that’s different from the ones existing in the market. The helmet design, named Surfety is a flexible wearable, which makes it much easier to fold and carry around than the hard helmets out there. Despite its flexible design, it does a great job at impact resistance, thanks to the gform pads on the surface that are the best when it comes to shock absorption (GForm makes iPad cases which they have tested by dropping from the edge of outer space. You can watch the video here.) The rest of the helmet is made of a breathable mesh fabric that makes sure to constantly release body heat being generated under the helmet. Ear pads cut off wind entering your ears, preventing chances of ear infections, and right below them are emergency vials containing a fluoroscent liquid that can be released in a moment of emergency to alert people of your whereabouts.

The Surfety seems like an incredible solution to a problem most people overlook. Safety in any sport should always be of paramount importance, and good design always helps not just save lives, but also create an awareness. Plus, the Surfety could be a potential game-changer by capitalizing on a market that is incredibly limited and new. There aren’t many surfing helmets out there, leave alone good ones. Surfety is a step in the right direction in that regard!

This S8 looks like a galactic space-rock!

galaxy_s8_concpt_1

Don’t kill me just yet for saying this but Samsung as a smartphone manufacturer has always been a bandwagon sort of brand. Yes they were the first to put curved screens on phones, but they have a propensity to capitalize on trends and rumors. Just recently there were whispers in the grapevine that Samsung plans on obliterating the headphone jack and the home button in their next iteration of the Galaxy flagship series. However, this conceptual design by Song Kyuho retains both of them. It does however put a dual camera on the back of the phone, so as to compete with brands like LG, Apple and Huawei.

The aesthetic of the S8 concept is a lot like Samsung’s older phones. Soft curves and elegantly executed radii are reminiscent of Samsung’s older plastic body days, but when executed in anodized metal, the phone looks like a polished meteorite slab! I’ll say it, I’m quite impressed!

Nautical-Inspired Knifery

panerai_07

Admittedly, I’m not a knife guy… but I wouldn’t be upset if someone gifted me one as handsome as the Panerai Multi-Functional Knife. It channels that perfect mix of Italian design and Swiss tech the Panerai brand is known for. Their passion for the sea is expressed in the subtly nautical dial which looks akin to both a ship’s helm and an elegant timepiece.
